Calira ran her hand over the edge of the shelf as she glanced at the titles of each book, hoping that this section might contain the history book she was expected to be reading. She knew she was at least in the right section, having been directed that far by one of the Brown librarians, who had then left her alone at the edge of the stacks. The bookshelves seemed endless to Calira, and she had come up with no better way to find what she wanted than to just start reading titles. She had worked her way into the middle of the section by now and as far as Calira could tell, nobody else was nearby, giving her very little chance of asking for help anytime soon.
Her hazel eyes continued to scan the book titles, starting with the highest titles she could read and working down to the books nearest to the floor. She had to kneel down to see those books, and was intent enough on her search not to realize that she was no longer alone in the row. Standing up, her head connected with something solid. At first, Calira thought it was the edge of the shelf, but as she looked up, she realized that she'd managed to run in to someone else. "I'm sorry!" she said. "I didn't think anyone else was near me."
