Welcome to the Gardens: one of the most tranquil areas of the Tower Grounds. Birds sing in the trees which line the wide paths between beautiful flower beds and serene lakes. There are benches to sit and listen to the waterfall, and there is neatly trimmed grass to lie on and rest. Novices and Soldiers as well as Warders in Training can be seen, sweeping the stone paths as Accepted and Dedicated study from books and relax under leafy trees.

Moon in the soil (Fanfic)

Corben Ashmar
Corben sat in the peace of the Gardens, enjoying the chance to rest and do some sketching. As he idly sketched the trees and flora of the Gardens, he was amazed by the peace and tranquility the area cultivated in the midst of a hive of activity.

As he finished the sketch, he was tucking his supplies away when he came across the sketches he had made from a book he'd found in the Library. He had initially been looking into wards that could be centred upon the soil, something that would prevent burrowing beneath a ward a channeler had placed. That avenue had proven to be a bust for now, but he had seen mentions of those who had the skill to search beneath the earth. Corben decided now was a good time to attempt it, he removed his sandals and fell into the Void. Once there he ensured to feed any lingering thoughts and emotions into the Flame, before seizing Saidin. The garden erupted into an amazing cascade of scents, colours and sounds. The water sounded loud in his ears, and the colours popped on all of the flora.

But for now, it was the earth that held his attention. Grabbing threads of Earth he thrust the power into the earth beneath him, but was unable to determine anything. Curious as he knew that delving a person required Spirit, he realized in his error that he had assumed it would be different when searching through the soil. The next time he thrust threads of Earth into the ground, carefully as he did not want to cause a disruption to the Garden. As such he kept his threads small, questing fingers rather than damaging claws. As his power burrowed deeper he then followed the lead the book had given him.

He grabbed thin tendrils of Spirit and began weaving them along the Earth that was boring into the earth. Deeper and wider Corben felt his awareness go, the feeling of life from the garden overwhelming his senses. Corben paused for a moment to allow his awareness to adjust, until he had wove his threads deep enough into the soil that the roots of trees were the only life he sensed now. It was incredible to feel the earth beneath him, and he knew the threads of Spirit were bringing him information he couldn't even begin to describe.

This is amazing, I have to find a teacher for this. No Ward ever worked this well for me, Corben thought to himself as he felt the threads of Earth and Spirit moulding to his will much easier than when he had been forced to use Air or Water. Although he was still getting used to judging the new weave, he could feel the presence of stone that felt different somehow. He knew the small stone lay perhaps a few hands beneath the surface of the garden, and somehow he knew it was different from the cobblestones that lay resting on the dirt of the garden paths.

Curious, Corben sent a handful of threads of Earth, twisting them slowly through the few hands of soil between the stone and the surface. He recognized the semi precious stone as one his mother favoured. The moonstone was dark from its slumber beneath the earth, but as his weaves took the rough exterior off the stone, he could see the milky white crystal. The stone was small, about the size one would set into a ring or bracelet, but it still seemed a vast treasure to Corben.

He could scarce believe that he had been able to sense a crystal from the rest of the gravel and materials that made up the earth beneath him. He knew he was strong with Spirit and Earth, and he ached to find out if that gave him a deft hand at searching beneath the soil. He reluctantly released his weaves, his world shrinking as his senses folded back from being spread into the ground. Clutching the moonstone, he resolved to explore this more and hoped to find a teacher soon.
