This would be much easier if she were a shy, demure Gaidar. I guess that would take all the fun out of it. Zacharyn mused to himself. After having firmly led Ubriel back to their cart, Zacharyn had begun to receive an earful. He had expected as much, for someone as fiery as Ubriel to keep silent until he was ready to speak was ludicrous. She had set in on him the second he eased his harshness after they were away from Mitch Cartwright. “What do you think you’re doing!?” She barked. Zacharyn snickered internally as he listened to her for a moment. There came a moment when Ubriel was in the middle of her tirade about how he was being unfair and foolish, that he had just had enough. “Ubriel, I…” he made out, but she kept on right over top of him. He let her continue for a bit longer, until he felt she had stopped for a moment. “I just wan…” She had just needed to catch her breath, as she again continued tell Zacharyn about Mitch probably wanting to just talk. She had begun to thump his chest softly emphasising her feelings on the subject. A third time, Zacharyn began to speak, and was spoken over in her fervor on the subject. Light he loved this woman.
Zacharyn reached up and softly grabbed Ubriel’s hands and held them to his chest. It only served to slow her for just a moment, but that didn’t matter now. The next time she stopped for a second to catch her breath, Zacharyn leaned down and kissed her firmly and with all the pent up frustration and all the appreciation he had for her. An eternity of what was actually just moments passed, and he slowly pulled away from that kiss. “Ubriel, I understand that Mitch is just a friend and that you probably want to catch up. I need for you to know.” He slowed and became much more serious. “That even though he’s an old friend, I am jealous of him. I’m jealous because he was touched appreciatively, because of the way you speak to him, and for all the time that you had with him when you still lived in Morelle. I’m jealous of him because I want you. I want you as my warder, I want you as my love, and I want you for the rest of your life.” Zacharyn looked slightly embarrassed, but continued. “I will watch you go to lunch with Mitch, because I know he is your friend. I just wanted you to know how I feel. I want you to know that I have been trying to ask you formally to be my warder, and to explore the ajahs of the tower with me. I want you to know that I love you, Ubriel Bryne.” He finished and looked at her expectantly. He knew this would either end poorly for him or she would appreciate his openness. Still holding her small hands to his chest he waited for her reply.

Re: Checking on Mama; An RP to Morelle in Cairhein
Ubriel’s eyes fluttered closed. He kissed her. He kissed her soul. He kissed her mind. He kissed her body. The chill of the air around her seemed to freeze and shatter as the heat of his lips spread to hers. Her skin and bones melted leaving the raw nerves. They tingled and they writhed with the static charge that came with his kiss. At some point it ended and Ubriel was not able to see or breath or stand unaided. She had known how she felt for this man for a very long time but she had not known how it would feel to have those feelings returned. Somewhere in the back and off to one side of her thoughts, that first kiss she had shared with Mitch replayed itself, shadowy and hollow and weak by comparison to this.
Zacharyn was talking. He was saying he wanted her. She tried to listen and to understand and her heart began to have tremors. Her breathing was shallow and then she felt flushed with panic. He wanted her, for his love. Did that mean he loved her? Is wanting and loving the same? Ubriel thought about her own feelings. She loved him. That thought, never quite voiced before, sent her spinning off in a completely different direction and she stood in the middle of her mind and waved goodbye to that little cyclone. Focussing again, she returned to the thought, she loved him and she wanted to be near him and with him and share his world and his life and his passions. Did she want him? Was she thinking too much?
She brought her vision back into focus and saw that amazing face before her. She reached up and clasped her hands around the back of his neck and pulled his face down to hers. More kisses. That was what was called for. That would set the multitude of questions aside and pair them with their answers. Kisses. His kisses. She was hyper aware of the feel of his hands as they moved across her shoulders and down her back to hold her close. She left hers where they were, unimportant things not being her lips which were so importantly occupied.
Some time later, Zacharyn was holding her head against that marvelous chest and she was listening to the beat of his heart, like the drum to which her life should march. He had apparently picked her up and set her on the tail of the bed of the wagon and he was standing in front of her, her arms and legs embracing him lightly and comfortably. His arms were looped about her and his cheek lay on the top of her head. The question came back to her then. Tapping her on the shoulder like a rude and persistent house guest who absolutely needed to be thrown out, it would not be turned away. She sighed heavily and voiced her concern, “You want me and Light knows I would give myself to you whole. But, Cova’cuebiyar, do you truly love me? Do you want me for my sake or for your own? Is your love for me something that you want to give, or is it a need that requires me to be given to it?” She stared up at him with complete open sincerity and the most honest need of her life.

Re: Checking on Mama; An RP to Morelle in Cairhein
Zacharyn was astounded. How could she not know that all he wanted to do was love her, especially after his overly forward gesture just now. It wasn’t angering, the whole thing just confounded him in a way that made him laugh for just a moment. Enough to earn a look of ire from Ubriel. “My dear sweet Ubriel, I give my love freely and without cost. I have been slow to give it because of my uncertainty about where we stood with one another, but it is yours. I hope and dream that you will love me as much as I do you, but I love you in a way that wouldn’t be hindered even if you didn’t return it.” Zacharyn said caressing her face. I can’t believe she actually loves me in return though. he thought to himself, dancing for joy on the inside.
“Ubriel Bryne, Gaidar and Mistress of Training to The Grey Tower, will you marry me and one day bond with this lowly Dedicated?” he asked leaning his head to hers and touching their foreheads and noses together softly. “Will you be mine?”

Re: Checking on Mama; An RP to Morelle in Cairhein
Ubriel felt her head and heart pound together and swell like an overfed tick and then pop. She was sitting there, headless, and grinning like a Light blinded fool. She tightened her grip on him with her arms and legs and lifted herself up off of the wagon and onto him, nearly knocking him over and squealed with greater delight and higher pitches than she ever would have for Mitch. “Really!? Yes! And we are HERE! My mother can help me get a dress and all of those little orphans can be a part of it!” She started saying the most inane and silly things about flowers and cakes and maybe getting bees trained to drop honey on the cakes on the table as they flew over.
Eventually she wound down and found herself walking with Zacharyn toward the Shadetree Inn, holding hands and swinging them as they walked. Her stomach grumbled loudly and she pushed Zacharyn to walk a little faster. “Oh Mitch will be excited! I wonder if his mother still makes those little tansy cakes with bits of berries and onion?”
Arriving at the Inn, finding Mitch seated with several mugs of punch and bowls of stew and a thin white grain grown in the southern part of the valley where it was wet, the two sat with him and told him the good news. “Married! That is amazing!” Mitch was overwhelmingly happy for them. The obvious happiness and sincerity was heartening. “My wife and mother will absolutely want to make their tansy cakes for you.” he responded when Ubriel asked.
“Wife?” Ubriel asked with curiosity. “Who is she?”
Mitch laughed throatily and said, “Well, the funny thing is she is from somewhere far to the west. She says it is a place across the ocean called Seanchan. Her accent is amazing but she won’t tell me much about the place. She just didn’t want to stay with them anymore and took off this direction. She got here probably three years ago now. We were married just over a year ago and I have a son!” Mitch gulped his punch. “I was so busy trying to catch up with you, I never got a chance to get that far. Well you can both meet them while we prepare the wedding.”
Ubriel smiled broadly. Then that stupid rude and persistent houseguest returned. This time, the tap on her shoulder wanted to know if Zacharyn intended to invite his family. Did he need to go talk to them? Would Rory open a Gateway and let them Travel there? Would Zacharyn want to have the wedding elsewhere? Did he want to put it off? Ubriel finally put a hand to her head and punch that questioning voice in its nonexistent face. One thing at the time.
Looking at Mitch she said, “After we get all the things at the farm squared away, we will come by to meet your wife and son. We will talk about details of the wedding then, ok?” The sudden doubts and worry over what Zacharyn wanted for a wedding and timeline made her smiles weak and completely robbed her of her laughter from before. When they had finished lunch and were back on the wagon and heading back to the farm, Ubriel tried to express it to him. “What do you think?” She ended the long string of questions without looking at him.

Re: Checking on Mama; An RP to Morelle in Cairhein
A resounding ringing was the only thing Zacharyn could hear as his mind exploded his body into thousands of tiny flapping butterflies. Ubriel had said yes! Vaguely he was aware of other things, but for the most part the only thing he was aware of was Ubriel latched onto him and the look of elation on her face. He could tell that she had begun to babble on about this and that for the wedding, but he was still caught up in the moment the woman of his dreams had said yes to him. This was going to be fun.
The two of them had finally managed to stop constantly falling into fits of laughter as they walked to the Shade Tree Inn, and snickered slightly as they got near the smells that made Ubriel’s stomach growl in anticipation. He felt himself being pushed faster toward the inn. “Oh Mitch will be excited! I wonder if his mother still makes those little tansy cakes with bits of berries and onion?” Ubriel said as they got nearer the Inn. I still hate the name Mitch. Zacharyn thought as he said “I’m sure she’d love to.” Zacharyn stepped ahead just a bit and caught the door for his new fiancé.
Zacharyn and Ubriel made their way into the inn and sat down at a table where Mitch was already sitting with food on the table. Zacharyn pulled a chair out for Ubriel and then sat down next to her and wrapped his arm around her shoulders, looking smugly at Mitch. MINE! Ubriel had begun to tell Mitch all about the events that had transpired and began asking if he’d get his mother to make her tansy cakes. Mitch had just revealed he had a wife, which was well and good, but Zacharyn would not be liking him any time soon. He would relax enough, however, to eat the food that had been brought for them. Becoming betrothed had worked quite an appetite up in him, and he still had to begin building later today. Finishing up, everyone said their goodbyes and Zacharyn and Ubriel started back toward their wagon.
The two of them walked in content silence, still swinging their entwined hands back and forth with each step they took. They arrived back at the wagon and had begun their trip back to the Bryne farm when Ubriel began to ask questions as though she were quite worried about the answers. Zacharyn listened to Ubriel’s questions intently. After letting her finish he said the most profound of things. “Uhhhhh…,” was all that uttered forth from his gaping maw. He had forgotten about asking his family to come see his wedding. “To be honest the entire wedding is always handled by the women in Kandor. I have never even considered what I would like to occur… What are some typical wedding customs on Cairhien? ” Zacharyn asked, hoping Ubriel would let him in on some of her family’s traditions. “Though honestly I’m up for anything so long as you are there. As far as my family, I will have to get permission from Rory Asha’man to let us travel to Kandor to ask them to join us here. I imagine my mother and sisters will be all in a tizzy at the first mention.” Zacharyn said laughing.

Re: Checking on Mama; An RP to Morelle in Cairhein
Ubriel frowned. The women handle it? What a steaming load. All he wants is for me to be there? Do other women roll over for this sappy drivel? I wonder if he has ever been with another woman. Light! Ubriel felt her face heat up and flush at that thought. It was not what she wanted to know at the moment but it was going to make itself important whether she wanted it to or not. For now she tried to focus on the things she wanted in a wedding. Food and flowers and Zacharyn, a ring of some sort, music and dancing and a portrait. She had always wanted a portrait of a happy moment. She thought the moment she stood before the Light and pledged herself and accepted a pledge in return should be quite happy. She told him this basic outline and then started to expand with ideas about the types of food and the music.
“The tansy cakes of course, but I think a couple of whole geese stuffed with mushrooms and potatoes and dandelions and smoked with hickory wood and served with fried vegetable arroz…” Zacharyn made a frowning face at her and she said, “That little white grain, you can crumble it into a hot pan with grease and vegetables and a couple of eggs and stir it around to make a lovely side dish that goes very nicely with goose.” Ubriel heard herself and groaned inwardly but just couldn’t stop. “This time of year, there are all sorts of trumpet flower vines growing wild everywhere in the woods. If the girls in the house go out and pull a bunch up by the roots, we can plant them all over the yard and make little trellises for them to climb as their roots take. And I bet Fisher and his brothers still make music.” The rest of the ride back to the farm went along much the same and Ubriel sighed in blissful happiness. She was content and everything was peaceful and she wanted it to stay just so.
At the end of their ride, Ubriel took the supplies she had bought into the farmhouse and found her mother. Once she had relayed the news, her mother began gathering the children and telling them off with tasks to prepare the yard and the house. She sent four of the older girls to gather the trumpet flowers and wild mushrooms. “Of course you must go check on his family and bring them back for the ceremony if you can. Those Traveling Gateways Master Rory has been telling me about sound delightful. I imagine you can be there this afternoon and back again by breakfast.”
Rory, hearing his name, came toddling into the kitchen in the manner of dotty old men. He was carrying one of the few books the Bryne household owned. “Ubriel Dear, did you know about this?”
Ubriel scrunched her eyebrows and realized which book it was. Nodding, she said, “Yes, Rory, it is a family legend. Jain Charin was an uncle of my grandfather. It is a fun story. There isn’t a shred of evidence.” Ubriel had tracked down more than a shred of circumstantial evidence, in fact, but she wanted to quash the story as just a story. The less questions were asked about her medallion, the more likely she was to be allowed to keep it.
Rory however, taking the seat she directed him to at the table, laid the book open and began pointing out passages. “This is not the standard version of the stories. This, I dare say, has more detail. And here, in the back, there are more stories. None of these are in the other editions of these stories that I have read.”
Ubriel nodded, “Yes, I saw that when I looked for the stories in the library at the Tower. Someone must have thought it would be fun to add stories.” Ubriel reached for the book and deftly replaced it with a sweet roll. Rory began to pinch bits off and eat and Ubriel thumbed through to find mention of the medallion if she could. Her attention was brought back to the conversation before she could find what she sought.
Her mother had relayed the news to Rory and he was gushing with enthusiastic pleasure at the idea. “Of course I will happily take us to Kandor to talk to Zacharyn’s family. Hmmm… I should probably make the Gateway in the small room where I sleep. I know it best.” He muttered a bit more to himself before abruptly standing and taking a step away from the table. Then he turned back to the table, picked up the sweet roll and then walked quickly out the door and into the yard. The two women heard him call out, “Zacharyn my boy!”
Ubriel shook her head as she watched the door close. “Dotty as a drunken woodpecker…” Ubriel turned back to her mother. “I need to pack a few things and then we should go visit Mitch and his wife before we go.”
Nari narrowed her eyes at her daughter, “You be careful around that wife of his. Strange girl.”
Ubriel furrowed her brow before nodding and then left to get things packed up.

Re: Checking on Mama; An RP to Morelle in Cairhein
Zacharyn had absolutely no idea what "arroz" was, but watching Ubriel get excited about the idea of their ceremony and reception was intoxicating. She kept saying this person or that could contribute their own personal flair to the ceremony, and Zacharyn was becoming even more excited for the their ceremony to come to completion. The entire way back to the farm was filled with planning and ideas. Ubriel seemed to overflow and Zacharyn was feeling somewhat displeased with himself that Ubriel seemed to have an abundance of ideas, and he couldn’t even remember the last wedding he’d been to. He did have one thing in mind, however. His mother had a piece of jewelry set aside for just this occasion; if one could call it jewelry that is. He was certain Ubriel would love it.
The two of them pulled into the farm and Ubriel was quick to jump from the cart and run inside the farmhouse. Zacharyn wondered briefly whether he would often be “stuck handling the cart” and brushed it aside. It could be much worse he supposed. He was happy and he was positive that the two of them would be able to handle any major issues. Sighing, Zacharyn grabbed the reins, and spurred the horse toward the back of the house. Rory the Asha’man shuffled out of the farmhouse and let loose a bellow “Zacharyn, my boy!” He said, raising his hands in greeting as though he hadn’t seen the young Dedicated in days. “Ubriel has just informed Mistress Bryne and I of the good news. I’ll have you know it’s typically frowned upon for a Dedicated to be married, but there is nothing specifically against any of the rules of the Tower for it to be so. That having been said, when I married it was the greatest decision I could have ever made.” The scholarly old Asha’man was positively gushing about the ceremony and Zacharyn’s decision to marry Ubriel. Zacharyn had never even considered that it would be against Tower regulations for him to wed as a Dedicated. Though he thought it made sense for it to be frowned upon, he only remembered the information given to him by Seth-Asha’man stating that Soldiers weren’t allowed to have romantic relations. Shaking himself from his thought he realized Rory had been declaring that they’d be walking their horses through a Gateway made in the house! “Rory-Asha’man, perhaps we should take the time to learn the barn better. I don’t think Mistress Bryne would appreciate us dirtying her home and ruining her floor with our horses hooves.” Zacharyn helped the old man up onto the wagon in the seat next to himself. “Before that, would you mind helping me clear the area I need to begin construction in?” Zacharyn asked. He and the dottering old Asha’man had become quite comfortable with one another since the day Hainee had caused so much trouble.
Zacharyn and Rory got off the wagon near the section of the house that was to be built onto. Both of them got off of the wagon and the giant stack of lumber in the back began to hover toward the house. Zacharyn was taking in the area and began to mumble to himself slightly. “Alright, the area needs to be cleared, grass and those small pine trees there.” he said, pointing to a small overgrown area just beyond the house. “We’ll also need to grade the area just a bit to make everything level and plumb in the walls.” Zacharyn told the Asha’man. Generally speaking, it was unheard of for an Asha’man to be listening to a Dedicated in this fashion, but Rory had decided that he would lend his help to Zacharyn while he needed it.
The stack of materials had been placed out of the way, and the waves of air holding it, now moved to rake the sod from the earth. The process was going extremely quickly with Rory-Asha’man acting as a one man excavation crew. Going over the next step in the process in his head once more, Zacharyn began taking measurements of the area that had been cleared and was marking the layout of the space that would eventually become additional quarters. Zacharyn had squatted down next to his building materials and was making marks on them in seemingly random areas with a pencil. “Zacharyn, would you mind taking a break and speaking with me for a moment?”
Mistress Bryne had managed to sneak up on him. Out of the corner of his eye he caught site of Rory snickering at him a bit, and waving him off as if to say he could handle clearing the rest of the area. “Y-yes Mistress. Is there something else you’d like help with?” Zacharyn offered nervously.
With all the possibilities of a potentially upset mother, Mistress Bryne shook her head. “No no, I just wanted to speak with you is all.” Walking a bit away from Rory and his work, Mistress Bryne began. “ I understand that my daughter is completely enthralled with you, young man. I haven’t had the chance to really get to know you as I would like to, but Ubriel has a good head on her shoulders and you seem,” Mistress Bryne made sure that Zacharyn heard her stress the word. “to be a gentleman who likes to put his best foot forward.” Pausing for a moment, she looked him up and down again. “What are your feelings for my daughter, Zacharyn?” Mistress Nari Bryne was now staring down and somehow managing to loom over him with a look he had seen in the Mistress of Novices’ eyes quite often as of late. A woman who was not to be trifled with; a woman who seemed she would kill you if given the wrong answer.
Even with Mistress Bryne’s evil looks baring down on him, Zacharyn relaxed visibly. “Mistress Bryne, if I ever thought an ill thought of Ubriel, shy of thinking her stubborn as an old goat sometimes, I would give myself over to you for whatever punishment you deemed fit. I love your daughter with every fiber of my being. I do not simply wish to be her husband, I intend to be her stone when she needs it. I will bond her as my warder and as my wife. I do not know if I can stress how much I care for her and love her.” Zacharyn finished resolutely staring into the eyes of his mother-in-law-to-be.
Mistress Bryne remained staring at Zacharyn for several moments eyeing him up and down before she reached into a pocket in her coat. “I want you to have these then.” She said handing Zacharyn a matched set of simple golden wedding bands. “These belonged to myself and Ubriel’s father. I would be honored if you would perform your ceremony with these as your rings.”
Zacharyn held the two in his hand as though sheltering a robin’s egg. He looked from the bands in his hand to Nari’s warm smile. “Thank you Mistress Bryne. This means an immense amount and I’m grateful for your support.” Nari Bryne nodded her head and excused herself. As she walked away, Zacharyn could hear her sniffling softly and was happy that he had passed whatever test she had prepared for him. Making his way back to Rory, Zacharyn took in the sight. It seemed as though the old Asha’man had known a thing or two about building houses and had gotten all of his supplies set up where it needed to be. In just a single evening they were able to go from raw build site, to ready for framing outside walls. I am definitely glad that I can use the power freely now. “Rory-Asha’man, thank you for your help. I’m sorry I didn’t do more.” Zacharyn said. The old man simply waved his hand. “Think nothing of it. You’ve got more important things to be worrying about than playing carpenter.” The dottering old man grinned at him and pointed behind Zacharyn.
Mistress Bryne was back. “I forgot to mention gentlemen, supper is nearly ready if you’d like to come inside.” Saying their appreciations Rory followed after Mistress Bryne, and Zacharyn rode the now empty wagon back around to the barn and put the horse and cart away in their separate places. He made sure to give the horse extra hay for its work during the day. Light he was ready to eat! It had been a long day and wasn’t even quite over yet.
Re: Checking on Mama; An RP to Morelle in Cairhein
Dinner was a loud and raucous thing. Ubriel could barely see Zacharyn from where she sat with all of the orphans between them. She made a mental note to ask Zacharyn to help her build some long folding tables for meal times. As it was, her mother and Rory along with two teenage girls and three infants were arranged around the dining table in the kitchen. The food had been served out by three of the orphans and everyone had taken their plates and found a place as they could throughout the house and yard. Ubriel had found a place on the side of the porch and Zacharyn was sitting amongst several older teenage boys near the barn on upturned lengths of log.
After dinner, when the food was put away and the dishes cleaned and most of the children bedded down, Ubriel sat with her mother and Zacharyn around the dining table and sipped tea. “Rory is in the barn, preparing to make a Gateway there.” Zacharyn said, “In order to make them, one must be very familiar with the starting point. So he is taking tea and practicing his wards out there.”
Ubriel nodded and her mother gave him one of those narrow-eyed looks that meant she knew what he was saying meant something but she wasn’t sure that it was important for her to take the time to understand it. Ubriel advised, “After tea, we will be leaving to visit Zacharyn’s family. They are in Kandor and we will stay the night there. Tomorrow we will come back here and probably have them with us. Zacharyn and I are hoping to have the ceremony two days after. That should be enough time to secure the pastries and let the people in town who want to come make arrangements for it.”
Nari nodded at her daughter and sipped her tea. “Especially since you will be having the ceremony just before dinner. Everyone should be through with their working day by then.”
Ubriel looked sidelong at her mother. “We will?”
“Oh yes. That will be the best time. Everyone will have a chance to get through their day and the kids here will have the chance to finish their chores. We can do the cooking and sewing necessary for the ceremony earlier in the day and we will have time for any last minute things that are inevitably going to arise.”
Ubriel glanced at Zacharyn and grinned over the rim of her cup. Her mother had always been the kind that would make a decision without consulting anyone else but when asked about it, always had a very rational and coherent reason behind it. “Early evening it is.”
It was just before sunset when they made their way out to the barn and found Rory opening Gateways hither and thither. Zacharyn exclaimed, “What are you doing?!”
Rory turned to them and opened one eye. He had been doing it with his eyes closed. “Oh hello. I always wondered what would happen if one tried the weave for a Gateway with no particular destination in mind in a place where one was not most familiar. I tried a few too early and it turns out, the things simply won’t form. As you get more familiar, you can start to open them but sometimes there are some interesting things on the other side.” He glanced then at the large area of wet hay on the earthen floor of the barn. Ubriel shook her head and went on to prepare Peach to leave. She heard him go on behind her, “I started making very tiny Gateways then. And it turns out that one can not make a Gateway with absolutely no destination in mind. One can however make them diagonally or overhead and upside down as well as…” Ubriel stopped listening.
She considered not saddling Peach as she didn’t intend to ride very far or for very long. But then she reconsidered, she was a Gaidar and her training told her to be prepared for whatever she and her battle pony might face. She fully saddled Peach and attached the saddle bags with her Farstrider’s Medallion secured in one of them. She decided to leave Al’doondieb, her armored quarterstaff, and take only her Clobber and Shield, a war-axe and shield set she had gotten from Zacharyn at her request. She paused to look the thing over and allowed herself to be pleased and happy with the design of it again. The war axe had all of the traditional parts including the beard and tooth, a spiked cap redundant of the the pointing tooth and a hooking spike that spiraled off of the back side. The shield was just large enough to accommodate the axe being attached to the underside of it for transport and the top was made of a two-toned inlay of metals that depicted a stylized peach.
She had been using the thing for a couple of years now and examining the surface, there was not a scratch on it. She remembered noticing how perfect the surface had remained as she polished it before, but now she really looked at it and thought, There isn’t a scratch or dent anywhere on this thing. It is as perfect as the day he gave it to me. She allowed herself a moment more to marvel over it before making a note to ask him about it later and attaching it to the saddle. Leading Peach out to the main room; the reins of the bridle thrown casually over Peach’s neck, the horse followed her with her head just over her girl’s shoulder. Peach was special.
Finally they were all arranged, the three people and their mounts. Rory tapped Zacharyn on the shoulder and gestured in front of them where a Gateway opened just big enough for the horses to be led through. Ubriel crossed quickly through the Gateway, holding a torch high above her head and making a tapping motion on the back of her right thigh. Peach obeyed the signal and followed a pace behind Ubriel, slightly to her right side. It was a precaution, being the forward scout, Ubriel checked for any sign of danger and saw only the sleepy signs of a small village getting ready for sleep. She motioned to Zacharyn and Rory and the two of them stepped through as well.
