Walking in head first (Atten: Conor)

Lirievin Tesiva Walking in Head first Another day, another trial. Liri knew one day she would have to slow down, but today wasn't that day. After going to a few classes Liri was headed down to the Warder Yards, ever since she realized just how helpless she was without channeling she knew she had to take steps to make sure that she wasn't left helpless again. Even though she had grown up in Kandor, Liri had had five older brothers, she knew a little of the sword, but Liri knew she wouldn't be able to count on that now. Liri knew there were a wide variety of weapons to learn, but she knew nothing of them so she was hoping that a Warder or even Ji'alantin/dar would have time to answer some of her questions so she could find a weapon to learn, or at least a way to defend herself where totally balance on both feet was not required.

Liri was just about to round a corner to once side of the Warder Yards when she saw a flicker of motion, but the flicker was not enough as she read head first into someones' back. Embarrassed and praying to the Creator that it wasn't an Aes Sedai Liri quickly backed up, but momentarily she had forgotten about her ankle and lost her balance inwardly cursed as she felt herself failing backwards. There was nothing for her to grab onto, and even if she did have something she wouldn't have grabbed it soon enough.

Liri closed her eyes, not wanting to open them yet in case she HAD run into an Aes Sedai Liri waited to hit the ground, but the ground never came. Opening her eyes Liri realized that she wasn't actually falling and someone- she assumed it was the person she had run into, had caught her wrists to prevent the fall. Liri looked up at the person, thankfully it was a he, and with a quick glance Liri recognized the cloak as one given to every Warder. So she may have just been in luck. Quickly easing her wrists from his grip Liri curtsied hoping that the Warders were more forgiving then Aes Sedai. "I am so sorry Master Gaidin, Sir!" She said trying to keep her voice at least some what level. She couldn't believe she had run into someone, she knew she had to pay more attention to what was in front of her and maybe this was a warning. Liri just hoped that this Gaidin would be forgiving on her and not send her for more chores.

Conor Palfrey A Meeting Never Foretold Yet Long In Coming
It had taken him until he had gained the fancloak to bring in the pieces of Cairma's sword in to be reforged at the Grey Tower Armory. There was a childish part of him that wanted to prance around the yard in nothing but his fancloak and just scare all the Drin and Novices, but some more foreign.. more adult part of him kept him from following through. He heard that Cody was also back and had gained the Fancloak as well and Conor was waiting until they could meet up and have a proper celebration in Hama Valon. Or elsewhere. The danger of leaving the Grey Tower with the fancloak unbonded was running ht erisk of being bonded by someone of another Tower. That... was an unhappy thought so Conor felt like he needed to stick around a little closer to become a Blademaster before carrying on adventures on his own.

Just because he had the Fancloak did not mean he felt ready to bond.

Exiting from the Armory with a satisfying update on this blades, Beast had plenty of steel to be made into two decent blades for him, he felt the weight hit him from behind and with a Gaidin-like grace, he turned to find a falling Accepted and was quick to catch her and pull her up with her wrist. He did not let go just yet as she seemed to have given into the inevitable despite standing on both her two feet. When the lovely blonde Accepted opened up her eyes, he saw all but warmth and sunshine reflected in ice blue eyes. "I am so sorry Master Gaidin, Sir!"

Crap, that fancloak thing.

"Oh please, none of that." He couldn't help but be delightfully charmed by her over abundant of seniority, even though hearing Gaidin on the lips of someone that was literally referring to him was incredibly odd. "Can you stand?" He asked, waiting to let go of her hand. "What brings a beautiful young Accepted to these parts of the Yard?"

Lirievin Tesiva A Few Questions Liri was grateful when the Gaidin didn't seem to mind that she had run into him, she hoped this would mean no additional chores- the last thing she needed was more to do. She took a moment to take in the man before her, he was quite tall, almost a foot taller then herself, and had a large build. For reasons she didn't understand Liri felt comforted by his presence. Before he let go of her wrists Liri lifted up her right foot then set it down again, as it testing it. Sometimes when her ankle was not straight found herself tripping more and she did not want fall anymore or become depend on having someone catch her all the time.

Positive that her ankle was good Liri gave a grateful smile to the man as he released her wrists. She was glad to have been caught one time, she had fallen often as she was getting use to the weak ankle and her laundry and doubled as she tried to keep her dresses clean. "I am actually looking for someone to talk to about weapons." She said softly. "I've gone through some.... struggles recently and realized just how vulnerable any channeler can be when they can not channel." She finished, her voice getting quieter. She didn't like talking about what had happened to her, as each time she did the memories flashed through her head and she felt like she experienced the pain all over again.

Liri still remembered what the man had done to her so vividly she could still see the knifes. Looking down Liri gently ran her finger along a small scar her had on her left forearm. That cut had been the worse and most painful. Shaking her head Liri looked back up to the Gaidin in front of her, dropping he hands back to her side. "I know a little about using a sword but I have obtained an injury to my ankle so if is hard for me to be totally balanced in certain stances. I am just looking for another weapon I could use that would work for me." She finished her determination coming back into her voice. She WOULD move past this and learn how to better defend herself. "Would you be able to help me or direct me to someone who can help?"

Conor Palfrey It struck him as unusual to see an Accepted so far from the Tower and unstable on their feet. Having spent a great deal of time in the Infirmary, albiet flirting with the serving Yellows, he was genuinely surprised that she had no cane or some other walking device to help her. Would it not be natural for her to have something to help her instead of relying on walls? Conor tried not to share his feelings by scratching his head and giving her a confusing look, although he did shift his weight a little on his feet as he thought about it. Giving a small shrug to himself, he listened as she talked.

The Accepted was shy, soft spoken, but her words were... haunted. He heard words like the before although it had been a time since then. A lifetime perhaps, of a memory that had caught the darkness that dared touch the light. He tilted his head thoughtfully as the natural nature to feel protective of her while at the same time reigning in the urge to ask her all the personal and unthoughtful questions that brimmed his mind as she rubbed what looked to be a rather impressive mark still barely viewable through the white dress. Subtle, Conor blushed trying not to stare.

"Allow me," He held out an arm to escort her into the armory where he had come from, shifting his perspective to at least help her. He had taken on a few sparing matches but not yet training. It had crossed his path a few times but it didn't seem to last. At least not of yet. Apparently he had a reputation. "What might you be interested in? We have swords, daggers, whips if you are into that sort of thing." The charm of his smile like that he gave any pretty girl. "If you feel up for a little subterfuge we could even go with a cane sword so you would have something dangerous but that could help you walk." It was not difficult to see she struggled to walk, not that he saw her limp. No one adjusted their leg to stand if their legs worked just fine.

"By the way, what is your name? I'm Conor. Conor Gaidin.. I suppose." He gave a shake of his head. "That just sounds weird to me, honestly. So please, just call me Conor. Or anything you want to call me." The wink he gave her was anything but innocent.

Lirievin Tesiva Despite trying to be a little more serious Liri couldn't help but let out a soft laugh as the man in front of her mentioned whips. Whips were not her thing, but the way he said it and the smile he flashed had her feeling happy which is something she has not felt in a long time. Liri paused when he mentioned a weapon that she could use as a cane. Liri didn't want to depend on anyone- or thing to get around so she had been against any sort of walking support. Maybe she was being stubborn but she just couldn't get over the fact that at her age she may need a cane, she didn't want to get over it and she didn't want to give anyone any reason to pity her.

Liri hesitated before taking the arm the arm he, Conor, had offered. She wanted, no needed, to be independent but as much as she wanted to walk on her own, she did not want to seem rude by not taking his arm. Shrugging inwardly Liri figured there would be no way to not take the arm and still appear polite, so she took his arm and they headed off to.. somewhere, she was not exactly sure.

Liri smirked as Conor winked at her. She had the feeling that he was a joker or maybe a flirt, either way she expected more humor to come out of this meeting. "I'm Liri, well Lirievin but everyone calls me Liri" She said as they started walking. Liri almost felt embarrassed about her limp, which was new, but despite that she tried not to depend on his arm too much. It may have pained her more the fully using his arm but she had her dignity to uphold.

Following Conors' lead, Liri realized she had forgotten to answer one of his questions. "I did like using the sword, but with my..impairments I'm not sure how well I could use it. Other then that I don't really know much about any other weapons..." she finished trailing off. Liri looked around, she had been here for a long time and she had never been here.

"Where are we going?" She asked curiously. She tried to turn her head around to get a sense of where they had come from but in doing so stumbled over her feet, depending entirely on Conor's arm to not fall. She didn't stumble enough to stop moving but her face turned red from embarrassment. She often forgot about about her foot which lead to incidents like this. She stayed quiet as they walked, not sure what to say after that.

Conor Palfrey "To the Armory, m'Lady!" He said with a smile, not taking in too much her hesitation to take his arm. It was just a gentlemanly thing to do to offer an escort. It could be a nice date, a trip to the armory, if the lady was interested in that sort of thing. A little table, candlelight... Why it was so romantic Conor was almost tempted to just date himself! Getting a little lost in the idea, Conor started to babble to the lovely Accepted at his arm, leading her to a door, opening it and then escorting her in. "No finer place in the Grey Tower if you are looking for a weapon. We have all kinds of ways you an defend yourself.. or kill others. Depending." He thought a moment, "Defend. Nothing like a few extra daggers under your pillow to help you sleep better."

The room was reasonably well lit, free of dust and moisture although there was a distinct oil scent that lingered from the well cared weapons. Steel and stone was at the forefront of what the room inspired and even Conor was awes by it. Not that he would ever enter the room unarmed again. After a particularly nasty timing with a bubble of evil he had a healthy respect not just for the weapons that hung inanimate on the walls and shelving but also for the craft that had made them that sharp. Most of what he had been healed from were clean smooth cuts that would never leave a scar. Pity, he liked some of the scars but the he had gone to see the Yellow's so often that they wanted to discourage him from earning more by simply healing everything up perfectly.

Releasing her arm, careful to ensure that she could stand on her own, "Voila. Weapons. There are all sorts of kinds here. Look, touch. Pick up what seems interesting to you. I can help you train with at least a sword, Quarterstaff or if you want Unarmed. If its something else I can help you find a teacher but none would be nearly so much fun as me." He walked over and leaned against the wall, to watch and to answer. It was strange.. Like a sense of deja'vu of when Cairma took him to the Armory the first time. To see so many weapons in one place. Liri, a pretty name, was not like Cairma at all but she was blonde like her. Small. It tugged at something but he wasn't ready to give it a voice. After all, she just wanted a trainer and Conor wasn't about to just let anyone chase him.

Lirievin Tesiva The shadows are long
and she fears if she cries that first tear,
the tears will not stop raining down

As they ended the Armoury Liri was shocked by the shear amount of weapons. It made sense to have that many, with all the men and women that would come train here, but she never expected to see so many varieties. She noticed the swords right away and fought the urge to go over and look at them. If she didn't see anything else she liked she would train with the sword, at the least it would be a somewhat familiar weapon.

Liri walked past Axes, spears, quarterstaves, and many more weapons that she did not know the names too. Liri stopped briefly at the bows, running her fingers down the soft wood of one on display. A bow she could use, it would be easy and she could use it from horseback with no problems. But it wouldn't help in close combat . Moving along the wall Liri looked over at Conor before looking back at the daggers. Images flashed through her head of the daggers that had been used on her, he captor had only used one or two so the pictures of each where stuck in her head. Without thinking Liri reached up and ran her finger down the blade of one of the smaller ones, it looked so similar to the ones her captor had. Raising her hand back up to the hilt Liri grabbed it and took it off the shelf. Holding the dagger in her right hand she lightly traced it down the scar on her left forearm. This will not cause me pain Her left arm clenched as if trying to prevent the blade from breaking skin but in a swift motion Liri moved her hand back and put the dagger back in it's place. Leaning against the wall Liri closed her eyes. These memories would NOT haunt her forever. She had to get over them and the sooner the better.

Stand up when it's all crashing down
You stand through the pain
You won't drown

Giving herself a slightly push off the wall, Liri opened her eyes moved forward again. Nothing in the room seemed to call to her but the swords, so she made her way towards them. Occasionally her eyes would flicker back to that dagger but Liri tried to push it out of her head. One day she would come back here and she would face that. Reaching the side where the swords were Liri looked at them all. A few she thought would be too heavy, but her eyes landed on one in the middle. She reached up and felt it's blade, being careful to avoid where is was sharpened. "What is this one?" She asked turning her upper body around to look at Conor.

Conor Palfrey It was strange to watch another pick out a weapon when they are dressed like an Accepted and moved with a prominent limp. Moreso to watch her like a teacher looks at a student instead of a man that looks at a woman. It was very confusing for him and Conor wasn't entirely sure how he felt about the change. It was a shift in responsibilities and perspective and it was really messing with his head. But still, he watched.

The bow would have been a good weapon for her, range and used mostly upper body strength. He was going to nod at her choice but even as her fingers lingered she started to move away. A part of him wanted to correct her, but Cairma's voice entered his head. 'There are weapons that might be easy, weapons that would be expected. And then there is the weapon that is yours.' And given the 5 foot 6 inch woman wielded a 6 foot blade, who was he to argue.

Then Lirievin.. Liriin? Liri. That was easier to remember. Liri lingered on the daggers and Conor admitted that that too would be a good choice for her, but then she did something peculiar. Instead of seeing the weapon she seems to be reliving something as she pushed the blade to her skin. Not even realizing that he had moved much closer to pull it away, she then pulled back and put the dagger back. Backstep, Conor couldn't tell what to make of Liri's actions at all, deciding that it was definitely creepy and he wondered then just want drove her to defend herself. What nightmare did she live in where daggers played an integral part. He couldn't guess, he wasn't sure, and Conor did NOT want to ask. Everyone had their own story and like his own, they aren't always meant to be told.

"What is this one?"

Breaking his train of thought, Conor walked up and inspected where she was pointing. "That would be a Bastard Sword." He patted his hips. "I use it and a short sword paired so I could certainly teach you it. Pull a few out, some have slightly different weights to fit with the wielder. Lets see if we can find you one that works that is already made or we can go see the weaponsmith if we can't find one. Then you would have to learn on a practice sword for a while." He looked her over, keeping some thoughts in check and others measuring her with all the years of drilling done to him. Balance, the girl will need a way to balance. "Although I do recommend getting a cane sword. At the very least it will help you relearn how to balance and keep you from falling into bad habits." Not that he should judge too heavily, being one who had many many bad habits that even still he never trained out of. Then again, they were ones he never will and he liked it that way.

Lirievin Tesiva Liri watched Conor as he told her what the sword was she had picked out. A Bastard Sword...what an interesting
name.
. She reached up and took one down. too heavy she thought as she struggle to get it back up. She took down a few more, nothing really fitting her. Looking up Liri grabbed one other, it looked to be smaller and therefore lighter then the others. As she settled it in her hand, Liri felt like it was right. The size and weight did not seem to be too much for her and it seemed pretty balanced in her hand.

Liri looked back at Conor, she knew Conor would still probably push for the cane sword but if she could avoid it she would. "I like the feel of this sword." She said turning around to face him making sure to stay balanced as the last thing she wanted to do was drop the sword in her hand. She knew she should tell him how she felt about the cane sword but she also did not want to come off as being rude. Liri paused a moment trying to form the words in her head, she leaned against the wall and and put her weight on her good foot. Liri looked down for a second before looking back up at Conor, it was still amazing to her how one small injury gone unhealed for a while, would change what she could do and what she was capable of the rest of her life.

"I would rather not use a cane sword. I know I have.. Issues but I don't want to just give into it and become dependent on anything." She said making sure her voice stayed strong. "Obviously if you don't think it is possible I will use the cane sword but if it can be avoided I would like to avoid it." She tried to sound strong but inside Liri felt uncomfortable, Conor had been very nice to her and she didn't want to offend him. She felt like she had or was close to crossing a line but at the same time she knew what she was comfortable with and she knee if she didn't voice her opinion she would have felt worse. She only hoped that Conor would understand where she was coming from and help her if he could.

Conor Palfrey "No one can stand alone all the time, Liri." He said, and blinked a little at himself and blushed unusually bright for him. That sounded way too deep and serious then he would usually let on at the Tower. Perhaps all those years of pretending were fading, or that maturity thing really was going to hit him with the Fancloak. He officially was unsure if trying for the Fancloak was a good idea... but it was too late now.

"We can try the sword for a time, and if you change your mind on the cane sword we can come back for it later. As handy as it is for a cane, having a weapon on you at all times is also.. a comfort even if it is a little more showy than daggers which you can hid anywhere." He gave a shrug. "May I see the sword?" She passed it to him and he checked the weight and handed it back. Moving away from the swords to a barrel of thick looking sticks with notches in it. He pulled out a few, checking their weight and settling on one that was a healthy weight heavier than her blade. "I'll take this and we can head out to the yard and you can show me what you know." This time he didn't offer her a hand as she seemed rather insistent on doing things on her own even if she was painfully polite about it.
