Liaran couldn't help but laugh at the Asha'man's question. Isn't it obvious why I'd want to come? She waited for Avyra to answer first, knowing that her own reasons were not likely to surprise either of them. The other Accepted, having expressed a desire to get away, left them to attend to something in her luggage. She wondered what Avyra could possibly have brought to take up three boxes, and her question was quickly answered when the other girl returned, holding a brilliantly white bird. The bird flapped its wings as though it were getting reaady to fly away into the window, though it didn't. She smiled at Avyra. "That's a beautiful bird," Liaran commented. "Is it a pet?"
With the other Accepted occupied by the bird, Liaran realized she still hadn't answered the Asha'man's question, even if he shouldn't have needed to ask. "I was once a Windfinder," she started. "I didn't serve for long, but I still miss the sea and couldn't resist a chance to sail again." She looked up at the man, wondering how he had managed to adapt to life in the Tower. Tower life was something the Accepted still struggled with, if not nearly as much as she once had, and she hoped that if the Asha'man could be content there, she would be able to as well. She thought she might ask him about it later in the trip, if she got to know him enough to feel comfortable doing so. Right now, she wasn't even sure of his name. If he'd mentioned it earlier, she didn't recall it. "Did you introduce yourself earlier?" she asked. Liaran was fairly certain he hadn't, but couldn't be sure without asking.
