Barging in (attn: Elaile)

The hallway outside the Mistress of Novices' office was disappointingly empty. It was odd, how she wished to see a black-clad man, when she had been looking over her shoulder, fearing to see one, the whole way here. How quickly the mind changed.

Kitty looked down at the note in her hand, not because she needed to remember what it said; no, the number was already saved in her mind. She didn't even see the handwriting, only paused to gather her mind. So, now she was here, bound to the Grey Tower. Ready for a new start, wasn't that what they called it? Now, where to go from here?

She looked up and down the hallway, and deciding this way was best, started walking. Not long and only a few detours later she found her way to the third floor of the Novice Quarters. Fourth door to the right. One. Two. Three.

Four. This was it. Her feet came to a halt in front of the door, and she paused, one hand raised halfway to the handle. The Mistress of Novices had spoken of a roommate. Would she be inside now? Or off to class or chore or whatever novices did at this hour? Kitty felt a bit nervous barging in on another. And possibly just as nervous barging into another's room when that person wasn't there. But then again, it was to be her room as well.

Kitty suddenly felt foolish. A slightly nervous hand brushed away a wavy blonde tuft of hair from her face, as green eyes glanced quickly up and down the hallway. Thankfully no one else were there to see her standing there like a fool. But just to be sure she quickly stepped into the room before anyone showed up. So quickly that she forgot to knock or check if anyone actually was inside before she closed the door behind her.

((OOC: Here we go! I leave it up to you if Elaile is already in the room, or if she shows up later.))

Elaile was slumped in a most unladylike way at her desk chair, her chin propped on her hand as she stared out the single small window in her room. She had been in the Grey Tower for close to six months now and didn't think she would ever get used to the grueling schedule of a Novice, or the sparse accommodations given to her rank.

On Elaile's first glimpse of her new room she had thought the Accepted had made some mistake. Surely this wasn't a bedroom, it looked little more than a closet! The room was barely more than eight paces wide, with two narrow beds crammed in on either side. Two plain wooden desks and a small cupboard of a closet rounded out the furnishings. Elaile gaped when the Accepted confirmed that yes, this was to be her room and to make matters worse she would be sharing it with another girl. Elaile immediately rearranged when the Accepted left, pulling one of the desks before the small window and commandeering a small glass from the kitchens to hold flowers from the garden. Despite her efforts the room still looked barely better than a prison cell in her grandmother's dungeons.

Elaile sat now with a letter forgotten before her, the ink drying on the nib of her pen as she watched the life outside her window. She felt absolutely exhausted from a day of chores, classes and more chores, and the day was little more than half over! Elaile cherished her free hour each day in the afternoon, typically spending it outside soaking up the sun or napping under a tree but she had fallen woefully behind in her correspondence and today had given herself the task of writing replies to her grandmother's many letters. Shaking herself out of her stupor Elaile dusted the long letter with sand and then pressed her signet ring, a golden bee sitting on a segade blossom in a drop of hot red wax to seal it.

As she was waiting for the wax to harden Elaile went back to staring out the window, wondering if she had time to catch up with the other Novices before her next class.

The door banged open behind her, and Elaile jumped, whirling in her chair to stare. The girl standing before her looked shockingly similar to Elaile, with the same tanned skin, blonde hair and green eyes. Elaile stood and realized they were even of a height, although the other woman's eyes were a much darker green and her blonde hair hung free and shorter than Elaile's own. The two could be sisters, Elaile thought, her eyes wide in surprise. The other woman was holding a number of Novice white dresses, and had closed the door behind her before standing stock still returning Elaile's stare.

Elaile's mind raced. Was this the promised roommate at long last? Elaile had thought she had been spared a roommate after months alone but faced with this woman she found herself more intrigued by their similarities than dismayed. Remembering her manners she smiled in welcome.

"Hello," she said "I am Elaile Daishar. I'm guessing that you're my new roommate? If you'd like to put those down, there is a closet behind you." The other woman turned to look and Elaile shrugged "I know it doesn't look like one, but you can shove my dresses to the side and I'm sure it will fit both of our changes"

Kitty wasn't sure who was more surprised, herself, or the girl jumping up in the chair in front of her, making her heart skip a beat. The door clicked shut, causing her - much to her own shame - to jump again. Taking a few deep breaths to steady her heart, Kitty finally looked at the other woman, and found herself almost looking into a mirror. The blonde hair was tied up in braids, and the eyes were of a lighter green, but she had a feeling that wide-eyed, startled expression mirrored her own.

As the initial shock subsided, the other girl smiled and introduced herself as Elaile Daishar. Kitty gave a warm smile in return, and started noticing the differences as the girl spoke. Her accent was clearly not Andoran, though she didn't know enough to say where it was from. The way she spoke had her pegged as a noble, certainly not a farmer. And she appeared to be a few years younger than Kitty. Two, maybe?

Kitty turned to look at the closet, or what to call it, noting that it was indeed filled up already, though the other girl's dresses were loosely strewn across the shelves. Bunching them together would certainly make space enough for her own stack of dresses, at least until they could organize it better.

Thank you, she signed with her free hand. Summoning saidar, she wove a simple weave of Air and moved Elaile's dresses out of the way, creating a space for her own stack by the time she reached the closet. Somewhat reluctantly - she still enjoyed the sweet sense of saidar - she released the One Power as she put down the stack of clothes.

With both hands finally free, she turned to greet her roommate properly.

My name is Kitty, she signed with a smile, then reached for her writing pouch, pulling out a scrap of paper and her pen to scribble down her full name and other standard pleasantries, as she didn't except her roommate to understand her signs. No one did, except her brother.

((OOC: I'm sorry I disappeared for so long! Real life and summer sucked my muse away, though I hope to be back now, if you wish to continue this thread.
If you want Elaile to react to Kitty's channeling, you can just ignore the last paragraph and we can pick that up later.
Also, Elaile grew up in the Three-fold land when she was young, didn't she? So she might recognize that Kitty signs? Though I doubt she'll understand it fully, as Kitty is self-taught and follows no standards.))
