Re: Throw the Wool Over Their Eyes (Attn: Avyra)
Torianin watched as Avyra concentrated on her weaves. She admitted having trouble with Earth, and if Torianin hadn't had a latent ability for Illusion, she likely would have struggled with Earth as well. However, she remembered that the novice had successfully completed her first lesson with Torianin after she had applied herself and focused where she needed to focus. She watched as her student buckled down and completed the weave, creating an illusory book. "Wonderful!" the Accepted said with a smile. "Now, I've brought an assortment of things so that you can practice with different textures. Before we move on, I'd like you to be able to make a Static Illusion with relative ease.
((OOC: You can have her practice with different things until she gets the hang of it, or we can time skip a bit to the next lesson, if you'd like.))

Avyra smiled at the praise she had been given, and she began to practice a bit more. Now that she had gotten past her difficulty with Earth, she worked rather diligently with ease, her only real issue being what to create next. She began to weave again, turning the mug into a little figurine, a small dog. "This is fun, actually!" She seemed to have the hang of everything, each one of her illusions gradually becoming more and more intricate.

Re: Throw the Wool Over Their Eyes (Attn: Avyra)
The next part of the class began a few days after the first. Making something appear as though it were something else, and making it appear as though there were something there when there wasn't were basically the same thing, as far as principle went. The next lesson that Torianin would teach Avyra would be building upon that. She didn't bring anything with her, as this was something that could be done without something to hold. She met with the novice in the gardens, empty-handed this time. However, she did have a friend. Next to her, a cat paced around her legs, its fur just as orange as her hair was. It flicked its tail and gazed around the garden with bright green eyes. As the novice approached, she should have noticed the glow of Saidar around Torianin.
"Good morning, Avyra," she said with a smile as she lounged on the bench where they had met before. "We'll be moving on to the next lesson in your class today, and that is how to make Dynamic Illusion, Illusion that can move." She looked down at the cat moving around by her legs. She tugged on a couple of strings of Spirit and it jumped onto the bench next to them. This one was made with the same basic principles as Static Illusion, but with a little more added."
Torianin dispersed her weave and began another one. "You'll start with the usual net of Air and Fire," she explained as she created just that, bending and shaping it to the form of the cat she had made. "Just like with Static Illusion, add your knots of Spirit at the joints, then Earth and Water for color and texture, as we've practiced." Once she had made her still cat, she moved on to the next part. "Now, fill the parts that you want to move with Spirit," she explained, adding Spirit to the cat's ears and tail at first. "Attach strings of Spirit to guide the movements too." Doing so, she tugged on her strings of Spirit, making the cat's ears twitch, as if it had heard a sound, then made its tail move slowly in thought. Filling the cat's limbs with Spirit now, along with their strings, she had the cat stand up and concentrate on some unseen prey in the Gardens. "You can also add more to make the movements more realistic. Don't try to over exert yourself, though. Go ahead and give it a try."

Re: Throw the Wool Over Their Eyes (Attn: Avyra)
Avyra had been feeling good about this. She only wished she could actually practice, as she knew she could get better and better with work on her own. She had been reading a lot, for once, on illusion. Theories, how to do it. Tips of using textures. It was so interesting, and she could not believe she had this ability. She made her way out to the gardens again to meet Torianin, and she stopped when she saw the cat, her eyes lighting up. She almost went to go pet it, but something felt a little wrong. "We'll be moving on to the next lesson in your class today, and that is how to make Dynamic Illusion, Illusion that can move." Was that cat really? The cat vanished. Avyra looked to Torianin, realizing she hadn't said anything to her teacher. "Ah, good morning Torianin." She sat down next to her teacher, still a bit stunned by the cat. Had she done that with Ravak, somehow, when he had sent her to Mirin for channeling? Torianin began to explain the process, starting very similar to the original illusion. Make the weaves in the shape, color, and size you want. But there was a second step, Spirit. Filling the shape with Spirit. Hm. Torianin invited her to try it, and she eagerly began, embracing saidar to make the weaves in the shape of a small wolf in her hands. She might have been trying on something a bit too hard, but it might work. No, it would work. She could do this. Once the small creature appeared, she began to fill it with Spirit just like Torianin had done with the cat. Then she attached strings of Spirit, just like a puppet. She wasn't sure how to make it move, so she tugged at a few strings with her mind. The illusion wolf flopped in her hand, then began wagging its tail. "Sort of worked. I was gonna make it jump."

Re: Throw the Wool Over Their Eyes (Attn: Avyra)
Torianin sat on the bench in the Gardens where she met with Avyra for their classes in Illusion, but before she took a seat, she wove the Illusion that she would be teaching over it, and it disappeared. She sat patiently, and when her student walked forward, she waved with a friendly smile on her face. She patted the bench that was still very much there, just not visible. "Have a seat." She waited for the novice to get used to her new surroundings before she began.
"The weave we're covering today uses the same principles as the first two, but it's a bit simpler. Instead of changing the visible features of something, we'll be making something invisible," she explained. "I didn't bring anything with me, because the goal of this lesson will be to have you make yourself invisible."
Extending her arm, she decided to start with that. "Start with the net of Air and Fire, but instead of shaping it, just drape it over whatever you're making invisible." Weaving Air one way, then Fire another to make a net, she laid the mesh on her arm. Her arm disappeared from view, but the air around it was bent, nearly in the shape of her arm, like something was hiding poorly. "That will conceal it from immediate view, but to make it disappear completely, add Water and Earth, but this time, try to make the color and texture match what you see under it." Weaving Water and Earth, she added them to the blanket it, changing the weaves as she concentrated on the background. Now, her arm was completely gone. "Now, you try." She gave the girl an encouraging smile.

Avyra... knew the bench was still there. But, when she walked up to see Torianin sitting on thin air, smiling happily at her, she still gave a slight fright. "Have a seat." "I... okay." Avyra took a seat where she indicated, looking at the bench with... some real distrust. "This is odd." Torianin began to teach, explaining that this weave would be easier and that the goal today was to turn herself invisible. That was... neat. She demonstrated, explaining her process, starting with Air and Fire, much like the other illusions. Then she blended it with Water and Earth, no Spirit, Avyra noticed. "Now, you try," she finished with a smile. Avyra had gotten good at the Fire and Air net, despite only working with it a few times before. She decided to only weave part of her, her arm, like Torianin had done, to start with. Once that web was complete, she began to work with Water and Earth, which she had gotten better with. Her arm was now gone, and it was incredibly weird to look at, especially since she could feel it. "Woah! That's awesome." She grinned over at Torianin, releasing her weave, returning her trusty arm to her side.

Re: Throw the Wool Over Their Eyes (Attn: Avyra)
When Torianin saw Avyra approaching their usual meeting place, she motioned for the novice to follow her a bit away from the Gardens. They were still well in sight, but an open space was better used for this next weave. She was very pleased to see that her student had begun to catch on to the patterns in the weaves of Illusion. Perhaps she had a latent ability in it as well. The weaves that she would use today were a bit sensitive, and she hoped she would be able to explain why it was so important to be aware of how sensitive they were. "Today, we'll learn the weaves for what is called the Mirror of the Mists. It is used to make you appear as a giant," she explained. "But, if used in the wrong situation, this can be seen as a great misuse of your power. You have to be very careful of the situation around you, but in a dire situation, where you must be seen and heard in order to complete your duties, you can use this."
She stepped a couple of steps away from the novice and embraced Saidar. "Begin with your net," she said as she brought together the weaves of Air and Fire that were used so often. "Make it a grid, instead of a shape, and make it about as tall and as wide as you are." Demonstrating, she made the net a rectangle that covered her like a door frame made just at her height and her width. "Add knots of Spirit to the corners. "Since we are simply changing the size of something, we won't need Earth and Water. All we need to do is expand the grid by pulling the knots of Spirit outward." She did as she explained, and to everyone else, she had grown to be as tall as the tree that she stood next to.
"So," she said in her normal voice, "we have a giant with a small voice. To finish the effect, we'll tie this weave off, and begin another one." She tied the weave off and began to channel Air. "Just weave a funnel of Air over your mouth...your actual mouth," she said with a smile as she moved the Air to cover her mouth and make a funnel. "AND NOW, I'M CERTAIN HALF THE GREY TOWER COULD HEAR ME." This had been in the more private setting of a classroom when she took this lesson, but she liked the Gardens. Releasing the weave of Air, and dispelling the Illusion, she was back with her student again. "Your turn."

Re: Throw the Wool Over Their Eyes (Attn: Avyra)
Avyra was a bit confused when Torianin motioned for her to follow, moving out of the gardens to a more open space. Curiosity took her, but she didn't ask questions, knowing that whatever she asked would be answered soon enough. Once they had found their location, Torianin began to explain. "Today, we'll learn the weaves for what is called the Mirror of the Mists. It is used to make you appear as a giant. But, if used in the wrong situation, this can be seen as a great misuse of your power. You have to be very careful of the situation around you, but in a dire situation, where you must be seen and heard in order to complete your duties, you can use this." The novice nodded, thinking this out. Yeah. Appearing as a giant might have some sort of negative effect on those around them, especially to people who had no experience with the Power. As Torianin explained, Avyra followed, memorizing the weaves in her head. Or she tried to. Because she completely lost focus when Torianin began to bloody grow. When she finally stopped growing, about as tall as a bloody tree, Avyra had already startled backwards about what might as well have been a hundred paces. "Blood and bloody ashes!" She squeaked, despite herself. Torianin was looking down at her with that friendly smile of hers. "So," she said in her normal voice, "we have a giant with a small voice. To finish the effect, we'll tie this weave off, and begin another one. Just weave a funnel of Air over your mouth...your actual mouth," Torianin explained. "AND NOW, I'M CERTAIN HALF THE GREY TOWER COULD HEAR ME." Avyra jumped, again. Light! The weave disappeared, and Torianin suddenly returned to normal. "Your turn." Your turn? Let me breathe a bit! Avyra tried to recall what she had said, then paused. This was what she had done with Ravak. Make herself large to scare him off. So, she already knew how to do this. Her instinct weave. She began to drape the weave of Air and Earth over herself, then tied them with Spirit. Then expanded the Spirit. Yes, this was familiar! But she didn't see a change. But she must be doing it right. It felt right. So, she tied off her first weave and began to weave Air again, placing the weave around her mouth like a funnel. "AM I DOING IT RIGHT?" She jumped at her own voice. "I MUST BE DOING THIS RIGHT."

Re: Throw the Wool Over Their Eyes (Attn: Avyra)
Torianin had spent the better part of the last two hours trying to look exactly like someone else. She had borrowed the appearance of another Accepted that she knew. A young woman with blond hair down the middle of her back, who was rather willowy and thin. Her skin had changed with the sun a bit more than Torianin's had, and she had no freckles. Her eyes were a dark brown, contrasting with Torianin's green, and they were a bit smaller too. Not only that, but Jaelle was perhaps two inches taller than she. By the time she was done, she was just in time to wait for Avyra, in their usual spot. Crossing her legs, she began to read a book.
When Avyra came up, she looked up from the book and looked at the novice sideways. "Oh, you must be Avyra," she said, using the second part of the weave to make her voice sound different. She also affected Jaelle's Andoran accent. "Torianin said she'd be along. Have a seat until then." Midway through her sentence, she dropped the weave disguising her voice and grinned at Avyra. She dropped the disguise as well. "I wonder how long that fooled you..." she pondered before she chuckled.
"This is our last class before the final exam. I'll let you know when that will be. But for now, we'll concentrate on Disguise. To make yourself look exactly like someone else completely takes time, and I won't expect you to do it on your first time trying this, so we'll try for something simpler. We'll switch faces. To do this, we'll start with Spirit instead of Air and Fire, and we'll make it a blanket, instead of a mesh. Simply drape it over your head." As she explained, she channeled Spirit and wove a blanket that fell in place over her head. "You'll remember from our lessons in Dynamic Illusion that we add Spirit to what we want to move. Every part of a person moves. For the next part, we'll make our usual mesh, and add Water and Earth for texture and color, as usual." Weaving the net of Air and Fire, she changed the features of her face to match the delicate features of Avyra's. She also changed the texture of her hair to make it look like she had the girl's brown, shoulder-length hair. Their eyes were the same color, but Torianin's were just a shade lighter. She made her complexion smooth, without freckles, to match hers as well.
"To change our voices, we'll use a funnel, like we did with Mirror of the Mists, but to change the sound, rather than the volume, we'll use a funnel of Spirit, instead of Air." She wove a funnel of Spirit in front of her mouth. As she explained the fundamentals of the weave, she demonstrated as well, so that her student could hear the differences. "To make your voice lower, add Earth, and to make it higher, add Air." Torianin's voice was just a tiny bit lower than Avyra's, so she added just a small bit of Air to her funnel. "The accent, though, may be a bit harder to master," she said with a laugh at her poor attempt to copy Avyra's Cairhienin accent.
((OOC: I'm not sure what Avyra's voice sounds like, so I kind of guessed that she was a higher pitch than Torianin.))

Re: Throw the Wool Over Their Eyes (Attn: Avyra)
Avyra walked up, but paused when she saw someone... different in their meeting spot, Torianin nowhere to be found. She paused, then the strange Accepted looked up. "Oh, you must be Avyra," she explained . "Torianin said she'd be along. Have a seat until then." Oh. Avyra nodded, then yelped when the stranger was gone, Torianin in her place. "Really Torianin! You gotta stop scaring me like that!" "I wonder how long that fooled you..." the larger Accepted chuckled, motioning for her to sit before she began her lesson. Simply drape it over your head." She began to demonstrate the weave, explaining to add Spirit to all the moving parts she wanted, and add texture and color. Disguise was very similar to a dynamic illusion, if not the same save for wrapping yourself in the weave. Torianin demonstrated, and in no time there was a basic replica of Avyra, staring right back at her. Avyra scooted away a bit, obviously uncomfortable. "To change our voices, we'll use a funnel, like we did with Mirror of the Mists, but to change the sound, rather than the volume, we'll use a funnel of Spirit, instead of Air," she continued, her voice still sounding like Torianin. "To make your voice lower, add Earth, and to make it higher, add Air." Her voice changed in her next sentence, going up to the same pitch as Avyra's. "The accent, though, may be a bit harder to master." Avyra nodded, considering her weaves for a moment, studying Torianin's features. The two looked nothing alike, but Avyra decided to go for it. She began to weave the Spirit around her, then added some Fire and Air like with a dynamic illusion. Then she worked with Earth and Water, trying to copy Torianin's freckled face and her long red hair. She expanded her weave a bit, making herself taller to match Torianin's actual height; like everyone else she towered over Avyra. She tied off the weave, then moved onto the voice, funneling a touch of Earth. "Like this?" She had tried to replicate Torianin's own, strange accent but failed, but at least the pitch was correct.
