As he watched the exchange between the two women Prewtez was impressed. Though she might have just recently come to the shawl and did not yet have that smooth, ageless Aes Sedai face, Betrys handled herself as if she had been one for years. Although he was sorry about the poor victim of the attack he was glad to have seen her in action as a healer.
As she approached him and requested water, the Gaidin turned to the guards, “Don’t just stand there, get Betrys Sedai some water.” His steely stare brooked no argument as both men rushed to comply, practically falling over each other in the process. He took a cup from the first man back, ‘broken nose’ it was, and offered it to the Sister.
As she drank he asked the question he had been pondering, “I am not convinced brigands are involved, the details don’t make sense. In fact, I’m wondering if this attack might have been part of a larger plan to delay us. Do we need to stay until tomorrow or will the man survive without you remaining? I would feel more comfortable if we could be on our way as quickly as possible.” The thought of spending a night here was troubling indeed.
