Hama Valon, the city around the Grey Tower.
Forum rules
Welcome to Hama Valon! The aptly named 'mountain guard' is the city that has grown up at the gates of the Grey Tower at the western edge of the Two Rivers. Like all cities, there are quiet quarters with pleasant inns, such as Elman's Creek, which used to be the nearest village when the Tower was young, but was absorbed as the new city grew; its Band of Brothers Inn is still a favorite relaxation spot for many of the Tower's denizens. And again, like all cities the world over, there are less pleasant places--narrow, nameless streets that house hells and other houses of ill repute. Most of the city falls somewhere in between, with hawkers crying their wares in the streets, respectable shopkeepers ready to serve you, and petty cutpurses happy to follow you.

Novices, Soldiers, and drin'far'ji must be accompanied by a chaperon when outside Tower walls or they risk being picked up as runaways and duly punished.

This was a strange sort of circumstance, one that existed very much in the moment. Betrys was still attempting to figure out how she'd talked herself into this position but actually now as they finished the final part of the walk down into Hama Valon and the nearest inn, Betrys was starting to relax. Perhaps she should have done things like this before, with Mirin....she would probably have liked this. She would certainly not have objected to the possibility of having fun.

Was that what she was going? Betrys wasn't sure but she certainly hoped that her companion actually managed to have a good time "Do you want me tae order?" she asked, not wanting to assume anything as she pushed open the door and walked on into the warmth of the interior. This was going to be interesting, although she doubted that her presence had been marked beforehand - she wasn't that sort of memorable individual and right now she was relying on that being the case "I hae tried the cider a wee bit once before, it isnae that bad" Betrys responded and smiled at him, she wanted to encourage him to feel confident about this and ordering his drinks was probably not the best idea.

She waited for him to answer, but continued to walk over to a free table, pushing the cups that had been left from the previous occupant to one side and looking around to check out who was serving and getting their attention.

How did she ever manage to convince me to come get a drink? He grimaced slightly. He must be out of his mind. Well, he had been once, and it had felt rather different. Nevertheless, this was stupid. He stepped into the tavern, following Betrys. She asked, "Do you want me tae order?" Well, honestly, yes. But that probably wouldn't make a very good impression. "No, I suppose I can. What do they have?"

So, the cider was good. Or at least, not bad. Maybe he'd try that. He sat down at the table, looking with distaste at the lack of order. Why did people like these places? They were dirty, disorderly, and filled with potentially dangerous people. There was likely no one here that would be much of a physical threat to him, but that wasn't the point.

He didn't know what to do. He watched everyone else for a moment, seeing that they simple yelled out for a drink. So, that was likely the accepted form of ordering. He tried to raise his voice, to call for cider, but couldn't get past a subconscious block to a full yell. Yelling was ungainly. He tried again, choking on his yell. He looked around, expecting everyone to be looking at him and laughing. Nobody had taken any notice of him. A gleeman had come in, and they were all watching him juggle.

He took advantage of the comparative quiet, and simply spoke loudly. "Two ciders." He hoped that's what Betrys wanted.
