The Rainbow Cage [Attn: Kubotai Sobatsu Gaidin]

Hama Valon, the city around the Grey Tower.
Forum rules
Welcome to Hama Valon! The aptly named 'mountain guard' is the city that has grown up at the gates of the Grey Tower at the western edge of the Two Rivers. Like all cities, there are quiet quarters with pleasant inns, such as Elman's Creek, which used to be the nearest village when the Tower was young, but was absorbed as the new city grew; its Band of Brothers Inn is still a favorite relaxation spot for many of the Tower's denizens. And again, like all cities the world over, there are less pleasant places--narrow, nameless streets that house hells and other houses of ill repute. Most of the city falls somewhere in between, with hawkers crying their wares in the streets, respectable shopkeepers ready to serve you, and petty cutpurses happy to follow you.

Novices, Soldiers, and drin'far'ji must be accompanied by a chaperon when outside Tower walls or they risk being picked up as runaways and duly punished.

His response made her smile. That is to say, an outright smile, and that was a gesture she was very economical in the use of. It changed the appearance of her face from something carved in porcelain to something...almost human.

Am I not human?

"I'll have you know, my good Gaidin, that I do not giggle," she returned with humor. "However, I am quite serious about making some sort of escape from this place for a time." This prison. "However, I may have been facetious in declaring intent to go to Saldea..." Liar. She sighed, the smile waning. "That is to say, perhaps not exactly facetious in my desire, but I would not shirk my responsibility that far.

"But I have every intention of taking at least a ride. I think I can manage to make my escape on my own, however. I would not seek to make you complicit in the truancy of an Amyrlin."

Kubotai's half-raised eyebrow had the look he had stopped listening about halfway through and had surmised the rest. "Right. Side or stride?" he asked, pushing - gently, mind - past her to pop open the tack room door without so much as a squeak from the hinges. "And I don't suppose you're one of those window-to-another-city Aes Sedai either, so I'm going to have to yell and hope the guards are more caught by surprise and react through training rather than suspicion." He rifled through the room for what he would need - a saddle for a horse worth 'borrowing' for him, for starters - and grinned to himself when he came back out with a loose bundle of cloth that had been haning from a peg inside the door. "And whatever the case, you're lucky someone left a cloak in here. Nevermind the smell of it."

He's helping you escape, the thought echoed through Mia's mind and she couldn't help but adore him a little in that moment. Even the look in his eyes that suggested he wasn't listening to her pleased her. Any other moment, or any other person, maybe it would have inflamed her, but now...with so many paying too much attention...it was a welcome thing.

"Stride," was of course the only answer she gave. Even if she was wearing a dress that wasn't divided (although most of them were), she would ride stride and not mind the air or skin to be shown. She could not abide riding side saddle.

As he entered the tack room and found his items, she just watched--almost in shock--until his return. "It smells like horses," she commented about the cloak. "So have I for the majority of my life." Nothing if not blunt. She took the saddle from him and carried it to the stall where Seren snorted softly in eager anticipation. She set it over the door and quietly stepped inside with him. He nuzzled her in the dark.

"As for windows... I could make a gateway that we could go single file through. Traveling is not my best weave, but I am strong enough to do well...but not inside the stable."
