Maryn
Maryn winced as his yawn cracked his jaw, stretching his shoulders and back as he tried to fight the sleepiness that was threatening to overcome him. Soon would come last chime, and he would be forced to return the books to the shelves before making his way to his room to sleep.
Rubbing his eyes, the writing in the journal before him had been particularly small and cramped, and Maryn wondered if he shouldn’t see about making a more legible copy. For now though, it sufficed and he found the Brown Ashaman’s notes very interesting. He had found this particular book after a few evenings of searching, and while it contained only the broadest strokes of the information he had been looking for, it still touched on many other subjects.
Organizing his notes, and checking that he had placed the scrolls in their proper tubes, Maryn was surprised at how little information was written down on this topic. Many books had made mention of the Talent, however it seemed like something that was probably taught rather than learned from print.
Maryn had at first noticed the possibility after a few days at the Grey Tower. He had been suffering a particular bout of coughing and weakness, so he had been sent to the Gardens to walk and give his body a rest from the demands of his classes. As he had been walking in the Gardens he noted a particular weave, hanging in the air where someone must have been practicing. He had looked around to see if anyone was there, in order to ask them about the weave, however he had been unable to find the student.
Shrugging it off as idle curiosity, he had continued his walk and had not considered the weave until the next morning. As he was walking to class with some other students, Maryn decided to grab a quick sketch of the weave that hung in the air. He noticed it was faded somehow, the colors smudged as if ran through ashes. This made the fine detail of the weave harder to make out, but the general idea of the structure was there. Soon the bells had chimed and Maryn was forced to run for class.
——
Maryn began to grow concerned when he was next at the Channeling Yards. He had arrived at the yard to work on his Fire and Earth, both among his better elements. But when he arrived he stopped, rubbing his eyes in shock at the riot of color hanging over the Channeling Yard.
Weaves beyond counting, all in varying degrees of hazing over like smoke in the wind assaulted his senses as he tried to make sense of what he was seeing. Concerned that he was feeling the after effects of straining his body as much as he was; he begged to be excused when the Dedicated arrived.
Nodding slowly, with a stern warning that Maryn would be required to make up the time, Maryn had bowed his thanks and made his way to Library. There he had begun his research.
——
Chiming bells startled Maryn out of his dozing recollection, and he organized his papers quickly before dashing out the Library along with the other stragglers. So much information hidden in the minds and collections of each Ashaman or Aes Sedai. Still from what I could piece together every weave leaves a trace that can be seen by all. Myself and others like me can see the residue left behind for far longer. Now I just need to find out if it is a skill that can be improved, like writing. Or perhaps it is somehow dormant within some of us and simply wakes up. Maryn thought to himself as he considered whether to ask someone, or continue on his own.
