Dianlinn was working hard, and as she did she could not help but marvel at the Gaidin's skill. She knew they were warriors of legend, and not even an Aielman would push have fought these men for no reason, and when they did after Lamen's Sin, they came back and spoke of their skill in combat. And she could see it now, as she worked, the sun hardly giving any heat as she pushed herself, trying to scare a hit on the older man before her.

She was only aware of the audience that they had, as in she knew they were being watched, but she did not let that affect her or the way she moved. She was not a Gleeman, here to amuse anyone, but a Drin of the Grey Tower, and she would do her duty. Her arms ached, her elbow throbbed as Beron had clipped it, and she gritted her teeth in almost a snarl as they came apart once again and faced one another.

Her eyes watched the throwing knife flash passed her head, and landed into the fence, the dummy behind her now, and Beron in front. She looked into his eyes, hers narrowing a little as he spoke of her protecting her Aes Sedai. So he had changed the rules, and she would now be defending her ward. She nodded once to him, letting him know that she understood what he wanted from her. She took up a high guard position and waited for him to come to her.

He came in hard, and fast, and she worked harder to try and keep up, working to not let his attacks sweep her to the side, giving him an opening to her 'Aes Sedai' behind her. She used the dagger in her hand and her other hand, wishing she had her buckler with her, as it would have been easier to use that to deflect his attacks. They moved together, him pushing her more and more, and with each bone jarring strike she missed, or bruise making blow she took, she continued to stay before him, between himself and her 'ward'.

She would do whatever it took, even if this was only practise.

Beron pressed her hard. He knew part of it was for the benefit of those watching, this was likely to be a spar that quickly became the subject of hushed conversation in the Warder Yards. And while he knew that the knife of whispers could cut both ways; he was still dealing with the impression many had of him and Ravak coming to blows in the man's office, he knew that it would help Dianlinn settle and find a place in the Grey Tower if people knew her skills were to be respected.

And she was skilled, though he was able to spot holes in her defences with the focus being on attacking the "Aes Sedai" behind her, he was forced to sacrifice ripostes and maiming wounds, to try and move past her. He could see that she was willing to take a blow if it meant keeping him from her ward; and he knew that was a trait that could not be taught. You either took to protection seriously, or you did not and both fighting hearts had a place in the Warders.

He cursed as his lack of attention earned him a strong knee to the side, Dainlinn having taken advantage of his distraction to land a well timed blow through his own patterns. Acting quickly, he wedged her knee with his arm as he took the blow to the ribs; knowing it would earn him a dark bruise, but using their closeness to attempt stripping her of her blade.

She reacted well, shifting her grip and fighting fiercely to gain seperation between the two of them. As they both gained their footing, he once more spun into an attack, his foot throwing the soft sand of the training circle into the air. He had chosen the distance carefully, not wanting to cheat when he doubted Dainlinn would attempt such a move against a teacher, but smiling when she lifted her chin just enough to keep the sand falling upon her stomach rather than her eyes. As such his darting dagger was met with a strong grip on his wrist as she had not been blinded enough to miss it, and as he seperated the two of them once more, she would find herself facing the "Aes Sedai" where as he now stood between it and her.

With a nod to her questioning look, Beron allowed himself to sink into the Ko'di the calm of the Void taking over his mind and reactions as he settled into the stance he had practiced daily since finding the journal of an old Gaidin. He was the water, he would flow and move constantly, but with the "Aes Sedai" dummy as the center of his circle, each movement designed to shed her blows and redirect her outwards as ripples in a pond.

Dianlinn would indeed take a wound that was aimed for the Aes Sedai or Asha'man that she was protecting, as the Aiel had failed the Aes Sedai of old, and they lived in the Three-fold Land as punishment for such. It was her duty, by blood to save them, to keep them from harm. It was the right of the Aes Sedai to demand such a thing, and it was her duty to die in protection to try and make up for the Aiels sin. If such a thing was possible, that is.

She could see holes in his fighting, and she took advantage as much as she could. She was not always successful, of course, he was a hardened trained Gaidin, and she was barely a Maiden and a Drin. But she had felt her knee connect, and was sure she heard a grunt in return, though he soon turned her attach into a way to get her to separate from him in a way that left her pushed away and now facing him as he seemed intent to protect the "Aes Sedai". The trick with the sand had been clever, but she was Aiel, and such tricks were learned in childhood. It was why they wore the veil, though she did not wear it now. This was a turn that she had not expected, and she had to change the way she was fighting.

Now she would attack, and not simply try to defend.

Moving forward, she engaged with Beron, arms and daggers moving forward, hands used to try and turn an attack, feet moved to try and knock each other off balance. She took a punch to the chest, above her breasts and aimed at her collarbone, and she knew would have one hell of a bruise there, but more importantly, it was enough to knock the wind out of her, and she fell to one knee, a hand going to the spot, as she felt his dagger come to her throat. She had lost.

Breathing hard, though maybe not as hard as another Drin would be (she hoped,) Dianlinn looked up at Beron and dropped her dagger to the ground. If this had been real, and he had not killed her she would be gai'shain now, as she should be to the Shaido Dogrobbers who had taken her on her way here. She met his blue grey eyes and waited.

Beron floated in the Void, the detachment it gave allowing him to react faster and with less hesitation than he would have shown otherwise.

And so when Dainlinn presented an opening, he took advantage of it, striking her collarbone and taking the wind from her, while the blade found her throat. Beron dropped the Void, the murmurs of the students around him coming more into focus.

She had done very well, though he knew the Aiel had peculiar notions of honour and defeat. He still was unsure about the tradition of Gai’shan, but he knew as a teacher the position carried a lot of weight in their culture.

“Well done Dainlinn, I will be showing off bruises from several of those kicks. Let an Accepted know if the collarbone bugs you, the takedown was more what a Ji’val woul would face,” he said as he offered her his hand to help her up.

Collecting his dagger from the fence, he pocketed it once more in the sheath on his arm, and laid the blunted daggers on the shelf in the circle.

He took a drink from the cool water barrel nearby, then offered her a chance to drink. Thinking of their fight, he grabbed a small scrip of paper, and penned a note. He might hear from the Mistress of Arms later, but he handed the note to Dainlinn.

“This note will excuse you from one chore period in the afternoons. But before you think it’s going soft on you, know that I expect to see you here, working with daggers and honing those skills. I think that’s a better use of time, than mucking out stables for someone who will likely advance quickly...” he paused as he held up a hand, “but know if I catch you shirking, I will personally have my bondmate gateway us to the Threefold land, where you will stack rocks until I am tired of standing in the sun.”

Dianlinn was breathing hard, partly to do with the most recent bout, but also remembering the dogrobbing Shaido and how they had overwhelmed her and taken her down. She was breathing hard to out those thoughts behind her, as she had been told, dwelling on them would not help her. But it was hard not to think of it often, especially in moments like this. She continued to hold the Gaidin's steel eyes until he spoke, he was praising her for getting through his defence, and told her to seek an Accepted if she was in pain. But she would no, as the pain was a lesson she would learn from. It would remind her to not make such a mistake again. But she nodded her head to him before she accepted his offered hand. "Yes, Beron Gaidin."

Once she was on her feet, she began to brush off the sane from her uniform, and watched what the Gaidin did. She followed him and placed her blunted dagger in the same place as he had, and she would taken them back to the weapons room once she was done here, as was the Drin's part. She watched him make his way to the water barrel close by, and she watched as he drank first, and she nodded as he offered her water. "Thank you for sharing your water, Beron Gaidin." It may not seem like much here in the Wetlands, but to an Aiel who had seen fights over a third of this much, being offered water was still a big thing.

Once she had drunk her fill, she looked back to Beron as he handed her a piece of paper. She read the words, and then looked back to Beron as he described what the note said and what he expected. She nodded her head to him, a hand on her heart before she spoke. "I swear by my spears and Sept that I shall not make you regret giving me this note, and this chance. May I never know shade if I do." She told him, giving one of the strongest oaths she could give. Though the thought of stacking rocks in the Three-fold Land (any chance to go back would be wonderful) she did not wish to let this man down.

With a final bow, she moved to collect the practise blades, and take them back to the store room, though if anyone was watching closely, they would see her wincing from time to time. Though this made her happier than she could say.
