Treating the Rot [White Tower Group Healers]

Introduction As the group perhaps the most prepared for the chaos of a sudden departure; excepting perhaps the Battle Ajah, the hours after the Gateway opened were put to good use. As soon as the leaders had streamed through the Gateways, and the M'hael had broken the uneasy tension, the Yellow Ajah and aspiring Dedicated or Accepted put their skills and organization to good use.

Weaves of Air grabbed bundles of fabric as the Drin'far'ji unloaded them, each taking care to clear a space before the tent seemingly sprung to life as others watched. Earthsingers cleared the land of debris, and smoothed the terrain to help prevent further accidents or delays in treating the ill. Already the murmur had moved through Tar Valon, and under the watchful eyes of Warder Yard trainees, the people of the city brought their ill and suffering. The air was foul with smoke and thick dust covered many of the abandoned buildings, their former occupants unwilling to live so near the gaping wound in the city skyline. As the healers began their work, behind the scene the builders continued to fabricate tents for recovery, and aided the cooks in their task. Many of the city were hungry and cold, trade and supplies growing dangerously short as there was little governance to provide or purchase such needful items.

Amaranie
Amaranie nervously twisted her ring around her finger, hardly able to believe where she was standing. The city of Tar Valon wasn't a place the Amadician had ever thought she'd find herself, but here she was. She'd always been told it was an evil place, but as she took in the activity that surrounded her, it looked to her more like a city in desperate need of help. Amaranie was quick to follow the orders she was given by the Yellows in charge. She busied herself carrying bags and boxes to their assigned places, and even assisted in setting up some of the tents. A large group from the Grey Tower had been sent, and with so many people helping, it seemed to Amaranie that almost no time passed before all the tents were up and everything in its place.

With this done, the Accepted looked at the tents, not sure where she was supposed to be working. Lines were already forming in front of each one, making Amaranie feel guilty for not having found her place yet. She looked at the people surrounding her without really knowing who she was looking for. Amaranie knew she needed to find one of the Yellows in charge of the trip, but since there were many she had never met, that was going to be difficult. She kept searching anyways, aware that as the lines grew longer, she was wasting valuable time she should have been spending on the task she'd been sent here to do.

Gareth Tomosan Asha'man
There was no shortage of work for the group of Yellow and Yellow Aspirants to do.

With the destruction of the White Tower came the desolation to the city of Tar Valon around it, and now there was plenty of illness and tragedy to see to. Of course, given that it was at the hands of the Grey Tower that the ivory tower had fallen didn't make them popular with everyone...but for the most part, the truly in-need were glad for the aid.

Gareth divided his time between being a Healer and being one to give direction. He was a Healer foremost, but he was also a mentor, and one of the senior-most channelers within this group. With the group of Aspirants they had with them for one hands-on training and general assistance, that direction was needed.

As the tents were put up and the people started to come to them, Gareth directed multiple areas, starting with triage, where at least one skilled Delver was to remain and others who could assess without the One Power. They were split into illness versus injury, and then divided by severity. Children and pregnant women received priority.

Those who would not be actively Healing were put to tend to those with injuries requiring basic care--bandages, medicines, etc.,--or set to tend to people after they were treated.

Gareth tended to move between all the various groups.

Accepted Isla Arkema
Isla was trying very, very hard to not be scared out of her wits. She knew that sometimes the learning ranks were taken out on training missions, but she hadn't expected it to be so soon! Or so...big. Tar Valon? Really? It had taken her years in the Grey Tower to erase the mind of that place as evil, but the White Tower had been The Place her father's people hated most.

And now she was here... Helping.

It wasn't that she still thought of it as filled with witches with black hearts and blacker blood, but the words--the name--loomed large in her mind, right alongside her terror at whether she was qualified to aid in such a large undertaking.

Gareth Asha'man was giving everyone directions and people scurried to their areas. It was at this point that she saw her friend, Amaranie--now Accepted as well--looking a bit lost. She diverted her course to walk up to her fellow Amadician. "They have many of the Accepted and Dedicated working the minor treatment station over here," she said with a faint smile. "That's where I'm headed."

Nyaine Tar Valon without the White Tower had been hard to imagine. Both while at home and in the Grey Tower, she had seen paintings of the city on the island in the Erinin. The defining features of those in almost all cases where the shining walls and the high arching bridges leading to and from the city, but most importantly the large white spire that was now completely missing. Nyaine had always wanted to visit the city, stroll through the White Tower's fabled library. Be in the place that had stood through the Trolloc Wars, Artur Hawkwing and War of the Hundred Years war and so much more. Until now. Now, Nyaine deeply regretted not having taken the risk of visiting Tar Valon when she had first come from Cairhien to begin her novitiate in the Grey Tower. At least by being here now, helping the remaining inhabitants, she was contributing to restoring this historic place, even if its heart had been ripped out.

The diminutive Cairhienin had been assigned to Heal less critical wounds. Despite arriving in the tent not long ago, she had already treated a small number of patients and was just now Delving a young boy who was accompanied by a doting mother, who had tried to explain what was wrong with her offspring. Nyaine didn't listen and instead concentrated on her weave. The boy had a torn ligature in one of his fingers, but those were delicate body parts and if untended, he might lose the use of his fingers directly. There appeared to also be some tiny fractures in the bones of the same hand. The basic Healing weave would prove sufficient for those injuries, Nyaine reasoned as she let go of the Delving.

“Okay, little one, I will Heal you now. It will feel very cold for a bit, but there is nothing to worry about. Do you understand?” she asked whilst smiling at the boy. When he shyly nodded, she drew on saidar, channelling Air, Water and Spirit just so, and took the boy's head in both of her hands as she let the weave settle in, holding the child steadily to absorb the inevitable, noticeable jerk of his body. “Already done, you've been very brave”, she said and then turned to the mother. “Healing like this takes quite a bit of strength from the patient. He will be hungry, please make sure he is well-fed and rests as much as he can.”

Nyaine left the mother and her son, looking for the next patient to treat.

Amaranie
Amaranie broke into a smile at the sight of Isla. "I'm probably meant to be over there too, then," she said. "I wasn't sure, there's so much going on, and part of me is still certain I should be back in the Grey Tower washing dishes." She would have liked to stay and talk to her friend more, but Amaranie knew that was not what either of them were supposed to be doing. Instead, she hurried off in the direction Isla had indicated. She swallowed nervously as she found her place and people who had been waiting began to swarm into another line in front of her. The Accepted took one deep breath and set to work.

Although she knew she'd been doing well in her lessons under Araceli Sedai, it had still surprised Amaranie that she was now considered competent enough to use the skills she'd learned here, and as her first patient approached, the Accepted was glad that one of the Yellow Aes Sedai was watching nearby. She smiled at the woman, who appeared to have burnt her hand, an injury Amaranie was rather familiar with from her younger years cooking in her parents' inn. She took the woman's hand between both of hers and after asking permission, formed the Delving weave. The fine net of Spirit pulled together for her faster now than it had when she'd first learned it, and as it sank in, Amaranie learned that her initial impression of the woman's injury had been correct.

"You've burned your hand," she said, though she thought the woman already knew that. "May I Heal it for you?" The woman nodded, and Amaranie reached for the threads she needed. She always started with Air, then quickly moved on to Spirit and Water in equal amounts before creating the braid that would form the Healing weave. She studied it for a moment, assuring herself that her weave was correctly made, then let it sink down onto the hand she still held. Amaranie watched closely as the blisters shrank and the redness faded, letting go of the woman's hand when the weave had done its work. "Is that better?" she asked, and the woman nodded again and thanked her before scurrying away. That wasn't so hard, she observed to herself, then turned to the next face in the long line before her.
