lyrics -- save me by globus Avyra Moeryr
See me take my bows
And I'm heading for the exits
I can't stick around

The small Accepted walked softly through the streets of Hama Valon, hands clinging to her side tucked under her elbow to avoid the cold, head down. A few people nodded to her or greeted her with "Hello, Accepted." but she only replied with a nod. How could anyone look at her and think she was deserving of such a title?

She was nothing here. No real friends, besides maybe Jaryd. Sometimes she considered joining the Shadow. Maybe, just maybe, they could help her with her problems. Maybe then she'd have a place.

Cause I've made mistakes
That have hurt the ones I've loved
And I've thrown them under the bus
One too many times

Avyra paused, suddenly, a noise making her perk up. Something wasn't right. She narrowed her eyes and followed the sound through the empty street, trying to keep her own footfalls as silent as possible.

It sounded like the soft cries of a child, a little girl, she decided. Accompanied by a horrible, gruttle snarl that sounded like it belonged in the middle of a Trolloc camp rather than the tranquil streets of Hama Valon. She broke into a run.

Now I'm standing alone in the moment of truth
As the judgement's handed down
And my feet are scarred from the broken glass
Strewn across the ground

Skidding to a hault, she turned into an alley, ready to face a monster akin to something in a child's nightmare. The little girl couldn't have been more than five, curled up in a dirty corner, sobbing and shaking. The dog, Avyra could tell it was a dog now, must have been completely feral, dark lips pulled back to reveal yellowed fangs and brown, sickening gums.

"Hey!" Avyra yelled at the creature, and it snapped and turned, fixing a yellow gaze right on her for just a moment before deciding that the girl would be an easier meal.

Avyra didn't have time for this. She embraced the Source, weaving Fire and Air to strike the creature, something so horrid could never be called a dog, burning through flesh and fur, reducing it to a pile of ash, bone, and the smell of cooked meat.

The little girl still trembled, and Avyra paused, deciding she couldn't just leave the child. She bent down, and held out a hand.

"Easy. Its all right. Where did you come from? I can take you back. Unless you don't want to go back. Then I'll take you wherever you want." She kept her voice even and gentle, realizing now she shouldn't have been so violent with the dog.

Then you come to my side
And only to you I confide
That I've been battered and shattered and bruised and abused
For the very very last time

The girl, after a few minutes to consider, stood on shaking legs and walked over to Avyra, avoiding the grotesque pile.

"You're... an Aes Sedai?"

"No ma'am," Avyra replied. "Just an Accepted. I'm training to be one." She stood up, brushing her dress off.

"Oh." The girl looked disappointed, then perked back up. "But how did you do that?"

"That... takes quite some time to learn, my dear." She paused. "What were you doing out by yourself?"

"I wanted to explore... but I got lost. And then the dog came... I'm sorry you had to save me." She shuffled a bit.

Avyra shook her head. "No worries. Come, let me take you home, if you can tell me where abouts you live. This city isn't that big; we'll soon find it."

"Really?" She brightened again. "Oh, thank you, thank you!" She threw Avyra into a hug.

Save me from fear and pain
And love reign o'er me
Save me, Save me today
For tomorrow will find me at rest

And so Avyra walked, back to the Tower. For the first time, in a long time, she had helped someone. For the first time she had been wanted, needed even.

She felt just a little bit lighter.
