To be Friends of a Kind (Attn: Hannah)

Post by Cal » December 31st, 2016, 1:25 pm

Layla stalked out of the Tower door and into the gardens. The servants she had passed had moved smartly out of her way for fear of being trampled beneath the enraged Novice's feet. Curse those bloody Aes Sedai and their flaming chores. It wasn't the fact the she had to do chores, it was the fact that there was no flaming point to her doing the chores. The servants could do them better than any of the Novices or Soldiers so where was the bloody point in them do the chores.

She stomped through the gardens angrily muttering curses herself as she moved through them. She always made sure to stop her muttered when ever see saw an Asha'man or Aes Sedai, she didn't want more of the light damned chores after all. For her, even the display of control was a stretch. She wanted desperately to walk up to one of the full ranks and tell them just what she thought of their blasted chores but she knew it would do her not good and only get her into more trouble that she was already in which was a surprising amount considering she had only been her for a week or so. She continued stalking through the gardens hoping to see one of he few Novices she knew.

Eveayla had just escaped from another morning in the kitchens and had come to the gardens for fresh air. Honestly, any air was fresher when taken outside of a giant cookpot, but she had found some needed solace in the quiet of the chilly morning. She wrapped her cloak more tightly around her white novice dress, wishing she knew how so many of the Sisters walked around without seeming to feel the cold. Would that be something they taught her, when she was raised? If she ever was raised...

She saw blonde, lithe, Layla stalking towards her and perked up a little. The girl was newer to the Tower, and they had classes together occasionally, even if she didn't see the other novice frequently. She had done some investigating and had been surprised to discover that Layla was the daughter of nobility. Just the type of person she was interested in spending time around. She was beginning to feel like she might actually have some friends here before too long. It would be nice to have friends again. Her time spent with Lisari had been pleasant enough. It might not hurt to put a little effort into this one, too, especially given her station.

"Layla," she said, waving the other girl over. She sighed, lips twitching up into slight smile. "I just got done with chores too. I know that look -- what did they have you doing this morning? Scrubbing pots, floors, or small clothes? What classes do you have this afternoon?"

Layla very nearly hissed at the Eveayla when the girl appeared almost right in front of her and while she didn't take a step back her hand did flick instinctively to where her sword once rested. She had seen the girl in the occasional class but hadn't spoke to her. She was some noble's daughter from what Layla could tell. She hadn't tried to dig particularly deep.

She had nothing against the girl so she pushed aside her annoyance at the Aes Sedai and tried to make her voice friendly. It worked, mostly. "Scrubbing the bloody floors" Layla replied, most of the venom gone as she began to calm back down. "Wouldn't have been as bad if they floors had actually been bloody, at least then the cleaning would have served a flaming purpose." She muttered. Then, after processing the second half of the question added "Some basic channelling classes for the afternoon, there still try to improve my control. What about you?" By this point he venom had completely vanished and even her burning hatred for the Aes Sedai has dwindled to a full glow of warmth inside her.

She supposed that she should probably try to befriend this girl, not because she was noble born, Layla hadn't ever put to much stock in things like that but because she did need some friends here.

So. Much. Cursing. For someone noble born, this girl had a mouth on her. She was jumpy, too -- Eveayla had noticed the way she'd reached towards her belt when she'd been surprised. Odd. Had the girl started out as a Drin? She knew that the Grey Tower was one of the few places where women were allowed to train as such - the White Tower certainly didn't allow it, as far as she knew.

"I've got more basics today too," she said with a deep sigh. They were certain she didn't have a block. Maybe today she'd finally do what they wanted and grab the source for more than a few moments. She'd managed that, at least - the incredible thrill of it filling her, the warmth, the wonder, and then it had slipped through her fingers. Maybe she was just a weak Channeler. It felt so in-congruent to who she was, to be so weak in the Power. She had to keep trying, practicing.

"Have you given any thought to what Ajah you'll choose, if you're raised?" She would bet twenty gold marks on Green. This girl had warrior written all over her, even with how pretty she was.

Layla hesitated a moment before answering. Green was the obvious choice for her it being the battle Ajah. But at the same time since she had arrived she had been thinking. The Green was where the action would happen but at the same time what good did they do. The Blue seemed to do more good but have less action and action was what she wanted.

"The Green would be my first choice although I'm considering Blue" She said "What about you, what one do you want to join?" Her bet was this girl wouldn't go that the Green. She seemed to much like a typical noble women, all prim and proper. No, she seemed more likely to choose one of the less adventurous Ajahs, the Indigo or the Yellow, maybe the Grey. She didn't know the girl well enough to be sure.

"Well at least basics isn't the worst of the flaming classes they put us through, we could be getting something like mathematics. That just takes dull to a new level." Layla added. Basics was, in her opinion, quite a good class. She got to hold the Power which was always something and weaving was always fun even if it usually was just lighting candles or the like.

Out of curiosity how strong is Eveayln going to be.Just thought cause can't females tell how strong another will be or am I mixing things

Evvy is going to end up about a 5, I think, but I don't think anyone outside of a raised sister would sense that, not enough experience.

Eveayla nodded, happy that her assumptions rang true with this one. "I thought probably I was going to leave as soon as they'd let me," she said honestly, trying to read the girl's expression. She hadn't told anyone but Lisari much more than that thus far, but she supposed she had to start somewhere. Now that she had touched the Source she wasn't sure anymore about what she wanted. It changed you, Channeling.

"I'm not sure yet," she said, shrugging. "I don't know enough about any of the Ajahs to tell, really. White, maybe? Blue or Grey? The Accepted get to take all the determining classes, the interesting ones, don't you think?" She glanced up from inspecting her nails.

"It's really interesting to me, what brings everyone here to the tower. What brought you, Layla? I heard you're from Arad Doman?" What a far off place that seemed, full of exotic people. Her mother's family was from there, but very far removed from their heritage. In Far Madding she seemed Domani enough to folk, but compared to those that Eveayla had seen in the Tower...

"My grand mother was from Arad Doman," she offered. "They moved to Far Madding when my mother was a little girl. I've never been further west than here, and before that, the furthest had been Murandy."

Leave once you could! Layla would not be doing that, why would she? For her whole life she had wanted to be an Aes Sedai, preferably a Green, and be able to go where she wish, when she wished, to do what she wished. It was the freedom that Aes Sedai had that had drawn her to them, not just channelling although that was something in its own right. A sweet addiction that drew you in every time you embraced it. It became a part of you, even if you had only used it as little as she had.

"Why would you want to leave?" She asked before continuing on to reply to the other girls questions. "And yeah I am Domani. I left mainly to get away from my mother and for the freedom I can have away from her." She explained. "I mean once we finally get fully raised we'll be able to go where we want and do what we want. We'll have the full power of this flaming Tower at ours back. We'll be able to do what we want be that learn to fight or drink or whatever else we want to do." Layla finished.

Eveayla frowned. She'd wanted to leave because... because she hoped to get married? She wanted to live a life as someone important? Layla was right - Aes Sedai went where they wanted. The world was theirs. Kings and queens did what they said. Not even the Queen of Andor was beyond their reach.

"I guess you're right. I hadn't really thought of it that way," she said, brightening a little. "All I ever wanted to do was marry someone important, further my mother's business. Be in charge of things. I guess being Aes Sedai gives you that, and more." Something the other novice had said stuck out to her.

"You want to learn to fight... and drink?" She crinkled her nose. It struck her as funny. "I can maybe understand the fighting, but not the drinking. That part is pretty easy, I think! Unless you mean to be good at it, I suppose..." Most everyone she'd seen get drunk was pretty bad at it, from what she gathered. The more they had, the more of a mess they became.

"I think most of all, I miss being able to wear my own clothes," she said, looking down at the novice dress. "White is so not my favorite color."

"The whole point of drinking is being bad at it." Layla said. She wasn't surprised at the girl not knowing this. It wasn't the thing nobility tended to know or understand. "The whole idea is that you become a bloody mess, then you don't need to think or worry about thing. You won't be able to think at all if you do it properly and if you have a flaming enough to drink you won't even be able to remember the stupid things you did the night before." She explained.

She didn't bother trying to explain about fighting, Eveayla had seemed to understand that so she left it alone. As for the Novice dresses, well, she could agree with Eveayla there. White was a bad colour. It was so easy to stain and it was just too dull for her tastes but at least it wasn't black. "It could be worse, we could have to wear those Soldiers uniforms. With all that black on them. At least when we become Accepted we get some colour on our dresses while all they get is a little pin. " She said a slight note of relief in her voice at not having to wear the black coats and trousers of the male channelers. Although now that she thought about it a coat and trousers would be better than a dress, especially for doing chores in.

You drank to forget things? People did that? Eveayla couldn't think of anything she'd done that she'd rather forget. Obviously this girl had done quite a bit more... living. Of some sort or other.

"I wouldn't want to wear trousers," Eveayla said, nodding. "I will say though that I really do look much better in black than in white. I just look... peaked." She was about to continue when she heard the chimes of the carillon signaling that she only had a short time to get her sorry behind into a seat in the One Power Basics class. "Are you in One Power Basics? With Velanya Sedai?"

Without waiting for an answer from Layla, she darted out of the gardens and towards the door. If Layla was in her class, she'd better get a move on. Maybe they could partner up for one of the exercises.
