The deck has forty cards. It still has four suits--hearts, diamonds, spades, and clubs--but only number cards, one through ten.
Everyone puts in something to open. The cards are dealt, five a piece. You can trade in cards (one time) for new ones. Bet on your hand. People keep going around, matching or raising the bet, until everyone folds or someone calls. When called, whoever is left shows their cards and whoever has the best wins the whole of it.
Four of a Kind (such as four 5s) is best.
A "run" (five cards in numerical succession, like 2, 3, 4, 5, 6) is next best.

I'm confining it to these to keep it semi-simple.
You have to have something to bet, though it doesn't necessarily have to be money. Just of value to the group.
This is open to everyone! But if you're not allowed to be there--such as by rank or whatever--then it's up to you to figure out how they heard about it and got there. Natlya won't turn you in, but she won't lie for you either.
Everyone post how you heard/got there, and your opening hand. As detailed or vague as you like. I'll choose someone at random from those who post to be the winner and we'll play that out. Otherwise, we're just making this crap up as we go.
As time went on, Natlya had begun to see the wisdom of what so many people were saying. She had to start...doing something other than killing herself with over-training. She determined to get out of the Tower, but most of the things she would do would come from her old life, which wasn't going to work. She was doing well at not getting into trouble and wanted to maintain that streak.
That's what brought her to a game of cards. It was close enough to the old days to satisfy, but far enough away to keep the Tower Guard from throwing her in their cells...so long as she played fair, of course. Which she entirely intended to do.
She planned the game for the Band of Brothers, and then spread the word to a few trainees about it. However, now that she was sitting at the table, a few of the faces she saw were surprising. She tried not to think about that though as she took the deck of cards in hand and began shuffling. "I assume everyone knows how this is played," she said, since they were all there.
Taking a coin of small value, she tossed it to the center of the table. "Open." Once everyone else had tossed in their open, she dealt each person five cards...
The game had begun.
