Teaching the Drin [attn: Natyla]

Nani was sitting at the edge of the sparring yards, wrapping her hands properly so that she didn't hurt herself when she was training. The Gaidar had been asked to assist with a Drin'far'ji one on one so the girl didn't fall behind too far behind her classmates. A small sigh escaped her lips as she centred herself standing up, and started to go through her paces, slowly flowing smoothly from stance to stance, practising one of her home town festival dances. It was something that she always kept in her mind so that she would never forget them, and it also helped keep her very limber and relaxed. She kept her eyes open as she looked around herself, watching for the Drin'far'ji she was supposed to work with.

The Gaidar has been told a name, and a basic description, but the description could fit quite a few of the Drin walking around the yards right at the moment, so she was watching for the girl to approach her. Once she did, Nani would be ready to go with her full attention on the Drin. The day was mild, warm enough to work up a sweat, but not quite warm enough to be in just a sleeveless shirt. Her body flowed smoothly as she finished her warm up, and she looked around herself again for that Drin. The girl wasn't late....yet.
OOC: I'll be following Jip's old class for this teaching, http://www.grey-tower.net/Wiki/index.ph ... bat_by_Jip just so you know.

One more lesson on one more thing that Natlya really didn't want to learn, but had been told she had to. Her time in the Yards so far had already made a considerable dent in whittling away the healthy flesh she'd had when she arrived, although it hadn't gone so far as to make her a girl without curves. She still carried some of the softness around her face, but was leaner already.

Would it help her today, though, was of course the question. Today, she was meeting a Gaidar named Nani. She had never met the woman before, but she had been pointed out to the Drin'far'ji so as she wandered--just shy of being late--she knew which face to pick out and hurried over as swiftly as decorum allowed.

"Nani Gaidar?" she asked, putting as much politely and good manners into her voice and bearing as possible. This was (she was pretty sure) the woman who was going to teach her unarmed. Starting out the day badly sounded more likely to end up in bruises. Or, at least, more bruises than she would've had otherwise.

Nani turned and saw the red head that approached her. Her manners were appreciated, and cordial. It was good that she wasn't late, that kept Nani in a good mood. "Yes. You must be Natyla. Have you warmed up today?" She asked. If the Drin had they were going to move on with lesson number one, however if she had not, Nani would wait for her to do so. Once the girl was limber, she stood up straight, watching her. "Fighting unarmed is important for your survival and your protection. I'm going to show you the stances to start, and I want you to copy them as best your able. If you need correction, I will give it to you." Nani's voice broke no argument. She would teach this girl what she needed to know today, and then hopefully be able to test another Drin against her.

It felt strange to do anything without her fans, but she did it anyway. Her left foot went forward, and planted while her right foot slid back and angled to the side slightly. Her left hand was up in front of her in a fist, and her right fist was by her side. Her weight was evenly distributed over both legs so that she could pivot any way she needed. "Offensive." With a fluid motion, she slide her left foot back with her right side forward, and her hands left their fists while she was ready to block what was coming at her with her open hands. Her left hand was now by her hips and her right hand up in front of her face. Her weight was more on her back foot to assist with dodging. "Defensive." Nani said, before she stood up and crossed her arms. "Show me both of them." Nani was no nonsense right now, waiting to see the Drin'far'ji follow her instructions.
OOC: Bella, if I'm not giving you enough, or you need something specific better explained, please let me know! I want to make this as easy for you to respond to as I can! <3

I hate this, Natlya whined inwardly. She had learned early on to not whine outwardly, except to other Drin'far'ji who limped and painfully ambled their way out of the training rings.

Despite her inner voice, however, she began to suspect that she wouldn't be entirely terrible at this. She watched as the Gaidar moved fluidly from position to position, and thought that it didn't look all that much different than dancing. And Nat liked dancing. It was a good way to make a mark relax, of course, but she also just enjoyed the act itself.

And she was, of course, good with her hands. Any pickpocket who wasn't didn't get to keep their hands for very long, after all. Her sharp eyes took in every movement, because the better she did everything on the first try, the sooner she would be done.

"Offensive," she echoed. She moved her left foot forward and right foot back, angled like she was ready to move. Her hands up, and weight even balanced. With her arms spaced like this, she felt more like the man about to bring the lady into the dance frame. She held it for a moment to show her instructor, before bringing her left foot back and mirroring the position but with her weight ready to move away instead of move into.

This felt like it came easy. She knew that the rest wouldn't, but at least this she could do.
OOC: So far so good, but I'll let you know! I'll try not to be too dense, but I can be kinda dumb on fight-training threads. <3
