A Pair of Students [attn; Paradoxical]

Avyra, shockingly enough, was having a fairly good day. Her classes today had been easy, some channeling with fire and illusionism with Torianin, which she loved, and nothing bad had happened to her yet. And she hadn't gotten into trouble, which was new.

The day was beautiful, blue skies and a light breeze. Not enough to ruffle her hair or be annoying, either. It was just perfect, weather only channeling could cause.

But still, she was a bit at a loss. What was she doing here? She wasn't like one of the other channelers. She wasn't pretty or regal; her Novice dress made her look like a drown rat who didn't fit into its own skin. She was uncomfortable here, and that was most of what she could think of, now. She wasn't Aes Sedai material. She was just-

She hadn't been paying attention to where she was going, and had run right into a stranger. "Oh, sorry!" She brushed her hair from her eyes, looking up at who it was. "I wasn't watching where I was going. Distracted."

Shadow looked down at the small girl. She might not actually have been that small but to him just about everyone was small. In this case he was well over a head and shoulders about her. Although if truth be told he was that much taller than most. Only Aiel really seemed to be about his height and even then he was taller than some of them.

"It fine" Just as he was about to move round her and continue his way down the corridor he realised that he had absolutely no idea who this girl was. He had never seen her before. He stopped and looked at her again before asking. "How are you."

He suspected she was a Novice but with the dress she looked like, well, a drowned rat was the best he could come up with. No Novice who had been her long would wear the dress like that unless they wanted punished. In her fairness it was way too large for her and that would have contributed to the messy appearance. He briefly wondered if she was one of the ones who liked being punished but decided against it. She didn't sound like from the way she spoke.

(Oh, she looks like a drown rat because of how it fits on her. She's tiny, in every way possible, and the dress is super baggy on her. It looks awful)

Avyra raised an eyebrow as he turned back around, and she could see now that he was a soldier. "Oh, I'm all right, I guess. Yourself?" On the surface she looked fine, and maybe she was feeling rather good at the moment, but there was a small knot of not fine in the back of her head.

He was tall and lanky, and, like every single other man here, towered over her. But he wasn't intimidating; his shoulders weren't wide enough for that. He had long dark hair and... purple eyes? That was new and odd. She had never seen that eye color before.

"I am well enough" he replied studying the girl. She really was small he realised and he had to resist the urge to squat down to talk to her. He might not no much about human interaction but he knew enough to say that squatting wouldn't good down well.

Now he might as well find out who see was. He did wonder. He though she might be a new Novice. The dress didn't fit well, something which was rare in the Grey Tower. Everything was neat and ordered. Nothing was put of place. Well nothing but thus girl. She was the only person he had met who didn't seem to fit. It was no single thing, just her whole being didn't quite fit with the calm, ordered, serenity of the Tower. That and she was far to small for the dress. Just like he had been too large for his black Soldier's cloths initially. Of course they had eventually found him one which fitted but the had taken a flaming long time to do it.

"Who exactly are you" He asked, slightly bluntly. He had meant to ask that first but had gotten in his words jumbled and has made a right mess of it.

Okay. Thank you.

"Avyra Moeryr," she replied, raising an eyebrow at his sudden change in tone. "I'm a new Novice. I've been here almost a month." She held out her hand, raising it quite a bit so he wouldn't have to bend over to take it.

"Who might you be? I can't say I've seen you around." She didn't recall his face.

"My name is Shadow Alador Black. I'm a Soldier. I've been here few months" He replied calmly.

He vaguely remembered the name from somewhere but he couldn't place it. Had she possibly been in one of his classes. One of the ones with both Novices and Soldiers. They tended to be theory classes, or very basic channelling classes where there were two instructors. It was possible bur he doubted it. If she was that new she wouldn't we out of the most basic of classes while he was in some of the more advanced classes including healing and such like.

Could he have seen her around the Tower then or heard something about her from someone. Again possibly but he doubted it. He kept himself to himself mainly and didn't spend much time socializing with the other members of the Tower.

He did talk to others but it wasn't something he did that often. He noted to himself that he had started doing it more often as of late. Maybe it was a side effect of the One Power. He laughed quietly to himself at the thought. If that were the case the it was impossible for Aes Sedai to keep their calm, the same for the Asha'men.

Avyra nodded. "Its nice to meet you." He didn't seem very talkative, but he did seem curious. It was an odd combination.

"Well, how do you like the Tower?" She asked, starting to walk and motioning for him to follow. "What are the classes like for you Soldiers? I don't believe I've ever really spoken to one of you before."

Classes. They were an interesting thing. While usually interesting they could often be brutal in their own way. Instructors and teachers were not soft. Not ever. They might not be like the Black Tower but they were not as safe or nice as the White Tower either. They expected a strong first attempt or at the very least a very good reason for failure. If you failed because you didn't try then only the Light could save you then.

"They tend to be hard. We get little room for stupidity or for mistakes. They also have the risk we have when we use the power. That makes it more... interesting."

Interesting was certainly the word. The fight that told a man he was alive. That phrase appeared often. The fight they all went through when they used the power. The fight to survive. It was brilliant and terrifying at the same time. There was always the threat that if you lost control, even for just a second, then you and possibly everyone around you was dead. It was simple truth and it scared him greatly. Not because of what it was but because of how matter of fact most men were with it.

Avyra smiled, then shook her head. "Yeah, same with ours as Novices. They tell us to study, but how can we learn when we can't channel on our own? Its a bit silly, in my opinion, but oh well." She sighed, looking back up at him. She nearly had to jog to keep up with his long stride. "Where are you from? No offense, but I've never seen a man with your eye color before."

Seonin, as usual, appeared lost in her thoughts as she walked toward the dining hall. She walked briskly, with her eyes were downcast, just like it had been expected from her when she had been a slave to the Seanchan. But this did not mean she was unaware of her surroundings. After all, it would have meant severe punishment for her clumsiness if she ever accidentally ran into one of her masters. She was halfway there when she heard a familiar voice.

"No offense, but I've never seen a man with your eye color before," said a woman. Seonin's head turned to the side. Avyra?

A male voice responded, and Seonin stopped in shock. A man! Was her roommate speaking to a man? Curiosity got the best of her, and the novice peeked up through her lashes to see Avyra walking by with a sullen young Soldier who looked too long for his clothes. He had a scar over his left eye and lank brown hair. Seonin's lips curved disapprovingly - she did not trust men with scars.

She resolved to speak with Avyra later about this. But first, she continued to follow them like a silent, pale shadow. Her slippered feet made no noise on the stone floors of the Tower.

OOC: Please note that quality posts are usually at least 200 words in length. A quality RP post will include three key elements: 1) description of the setting, 2) the things that happen, including dialogue, and 3) character thoughts. Like a recipe, each of these elements must be present in appreciable quantities to make a palatable meal. Seonin may or may not make another appearance depending on how this thread continues. <3 - With sincerity, Jenny
