All Plants Great and Small (Fanfic)

Daelar walked through the halls, holding a lamp. The sun was just beginning to lighten the sky, showing a clear day. Stepping silently through the halls, Daelar came to the library. The library was very quiet, not surprising for the hour. This early in the morning most people were either working in their rooms or still sleeping. However, Daelar had recently learned of plantweaving, and wanted to find something about it.
Walking down the rows of shelves, he realized that he really was still quite tired. He'd see if he could get any Kaf at breakfast. He wasn't always able to. Tea was okay, but Kaf was a taste of home.
Here was the book. Daelar took the heavy tome down from the shelf, blowing some dust off of it. Apparently nobody had used in quite a while. A Treatise on the Weaving of Plants with Saidin. Tucking it under his arm, Daelar padded through the library toward a private corner. He heard the shuffling feet and yawns of the first people entering the library for early morning study.
Sitting down on the chair in the corner, he opened the book. It really hadn't been used in quite a long time indeed. He blew the dust from the pages, and began to read.
An hour later, the library was bustling. The sun was shining brightly through the high windows, making lamps unnecessary. Daelar was barely awake, but he had learned something. He pulled his chair up to the table, and began to create diagrams of the weaves. Most people only used diagrams for Ter'angreal, but Daelar found them useful for other weaves as well. Three weaves later, he set out for the kitchens. He really hoped they'd allow him Kaf today.
At the tables that the Accepted and Dedicated ate at, Daelar was still studying his diagrams. He had a half empty cup of tea(they hadn't given him Kaf), and his food was all but untouched. Most of the diners were giving him strange looks, but thankfully they were staying away from him. He didn't want any conversations right now. A few bites of eggs later, Daelar got up from the table to go out to the gardens.
Well, a simple weave. Growing a plant. Daelar went to a small flower, and began to weave, glancing at his diagrams. It was a relatively simple weave, water and earth, with traces of air and fire, set in a column taller and thicker than the plant in question. His first attempt hardly did anything. With his second it grew longer, and his third made it longer still. Ah. The earth and air are the most important here. Specifically earth for the shape, and water for the amount of change.
A few attempts later, he was trying the second weave. This one was supposed to shape the plant and give the stem a strong woody outer skin. The leaves and flowers would stay the same as normal, though. Daelar wove, earth surrounding a column of water, the weave placed on the roots. The weave was then shaped exactly how you wanted the plant to be shaped.
The plant shaped itself into a knot. He tried quite a few more times, eventually managing to make the shape how he wanted it. The final weave that he had drawn was to change the shape of leaves and flowers. This one was much more difficult. You had to shape threads of water exactly how you wanted to shape the leaves or petals, and knot the center with earth, water, air, and fire.
This one took lots and lots of practice. It would likely have taken much more, except that he had used a similar technique for shaping earth. By the time he was finished, it was high noon, and Daelar wanted to make something to scare people. It wouldn't be nearly as impressive as the time someone had created a fist of Trollocs in the middle of the garden, but hopefully someone would be surprised by it.
Daelar moved to a different part of the garden, finding a new flower. He used his first weave, creating a tall flower about half a hand thick. He used the second weave, shaping the body of the flower like a snake slithering along the ground, also causing the leaves to lie down along the stem. Finally for the last part. Spending a good five minutes on the weave, he shaped the flower exactly like a snake, complete with fangs and eyes. Hopefully someone would come across it...
