Hi there! Just wondering who has been to DragonCon, any fun stories? Would you recommend? Any art sellers?
I've considered going a few times, but have never made it. I'm always strapped for cash and don't happen to have anyone near me that would be interested. But, I've considered trying to pay for the trip by becoming a vendor. Maybe caricatures, maybe art prints, not sure.
Anyway, just thought I'd see if you all are big Conners or what.

I have not been, but have wanted to every year for...oh.....13?
I live in Oregon and the air fare alone is prohibitive.
Have you heard of JordanCon? It is smaller, but focused on WoT and the people there are very friendly

I haven't been to DragonCon, but I've been to a whole bunch of anime conventions, and also JordanCon, as Marla mentioned.

(I'll be going to JCon again this year, too.)

I have not been to JCon, though it's still on the table for this year if I am able to get my finances in order!
I wish they offered child care. :/

I have been to DragonCon. It was...an experience. Basically take every level of nerd in existence, and stick them all together across the 3 largest hotels on Peach Street in Atlanta. Chaos ensues. At times, I was embarrassed to be there. Some people act...truly horrifying in a situation where their insane level of social awkwardness is matched and accepted by an abnormally large percentage of people in attendance.
Throw in some celebrities to the mix...and people lose their fucking minds.
All of that considered, I had a blast. I met up with my people from Funcom Entertainment and we threw down. A lot of the things we did were from an Exhibitor point of view, not an attendee, so my perspective may be slightly different.
However, I did go to a Karaoke Bar without being 21, was forced to sit at the Bar with a big X on my hand so they could watch me. Lo' and behold, I was sitting next to Hayden Panettiere from Heroes. We chatted, she invited me to a private lounge where the whole cast of Heroes was hanging out. Then they all invited me out for Sushi later that night. Soooooo...moral of the story, anything can happen at DragonCon.
