The Night is Dark (Attn: Liri)

Audie stood in her room, in a drafty corner of the Grey Tower, and wondered what she was doing, and where on earth her roommate had gone. The girl was barely tolerable, but at least helped Audie with chores and the like when she would otherwise have stared blankly at dirty dishes and dirty floors, unsure of what to do. And so she stood in her room, sans roommate, and wondered, blankly, what to do.
And then the door opened. “Mirabelle?” Audie called in greeting, irrationally irritated to have such a common name on her tongue. She missed her peers; Ephaedra, Angharad, Viselia, and the lot. They were all proper ladies, something that Mirabelle and certainly most of the novices at the Grey Tower were not, and had proper names.
But there was no one there. Audie stared, mouth dry, hands clenching into fists at her sides. She stepped forward, and her dress changed around her, from novice white to pale rose embroidered silk. She sank to the floor, a drooping petal, face hidden by her hands as she tried to breathe. Tel’aran’rhiod. She was in Tel’aran’rhiod.
Cecily Sedai had told her that there should be no more unscheduled visits to Tel’aran’rhiod. She had given Audie a strange ring to wear to bed, one that had been specially made for her, since there had never before been a novice who could not help but visit Tel’aran’rhiod in every sleeping moment. It had been working. Audie thought it had been working.
Weary, despite the fact that she was sleeping, Audie stood, rubbing at the headache forming in her temples. It was never safe for her to stay still, not in Tel’aran’rhiod. There was nothing to do but move, and hope that she would wake soon. She smoothed her ever changing skirts; sunshine yellow with silver stitching, a banded Accepted’s dress, a lovely green silk. Audie tipped her chin up, tucked her red hair behind her ears, and stepped out into the hall.
If luck was with her, there would not be Trollocs waiting for her.
