Silas noted the sharp glint of curiosity in the gaze Miahala leveled at him as she asked her question. No, not impertinent, just probing, questioning- she simply wanted to know what his motive was, without actually judging him for it. Yet. She might react differently once she knew why, but for now, he simply moved to answer, taking a deep breath before expounding.
"Well, part of it is the Foretelling, for starters- I find it foolish that there are so many willing to discredit something as clear-cut as that, especially since the Amyrlin is one of the strongest in the Talent that we've ever seen. Also, I find the idea of them useful- an Ajah dedicated to sniffing out enemy channelers, whether of the Shadow or not, would make our jobs infinitely easier. But, most of all..." He sighed, sounding slightly weary, before continuing. "You asked me to forgive you for impertinence, of which I've found none from you, but I fear I may ask the same of you, should I get too... heated about this topic. For, you see, the most significant factor in my support of the Red Ajah has much to do with its enemies.
"You may have heard rumors from some about my dislike of politics. Allow me, then, to clarify- I despise politics. I see no value in twisting words and back-stabbing, preferring a direct approach. It's why I feel I do well here, in this Ajah. But there are many in the Tower who do not agree with me, and it is with these that I have conflict with, particularly where my support for the Reds is involved. It sickens me, the number of people trying to sabotage or exploit the Ajah, before it can even find its own feet to stand on. They should have the right- just as all of us have had- to succeed or fail on their own merits, instead of withering away because someone took issue with their existence. I don't pretend that I'll always agree with the Reds- even amongst our most fervent allies, there are disputes sometimes, I know that- but I will not stand idly by and let them be stabbed in the back by some thief in the night before they ever have a chance to prove themselves. The Tower cannot stand, especially not in the Last Battle, if we are constantly fighting each other over trivial things."
Silas paused for a second, shrugged, then continued. "I suppose, to clarify, I lend my support for the Reds because they are a member of the Grey Tower, and I should do no less for them than I would for any other Brother or Sister, even if the feeling is not always reciprocated. Does that make sense to you?"
