Miahala enjoyed being at the citadel, because she had always been more comfortable around soldiers in the recent decades of her life. Plus, it was at the Blight Border and thus the borderlander she would always be at heart felt comfort here. It might seem odd to anyone else that so wretched a place could becalm her, but a borderlander would always understand.
The small group dispersed, and she didn’t think twice about it. Even the learning ranks among them were old enough to be allowed some trust. They knew where their rooms were, where the food was, and that they would leave in the morning. That was all they needed to know.
She joined everyone in the mess, greeting her fellow Greens and those others she saw before taking a seat at a table with several borderlander soldiers offering some of their military service to this place. Mia could see her great-great-granddaughter at another table, looking a bit… Mia wasn’t sure what it was, exactly. Pensive? Others likely wouldn’t see it, but kin could.
Still, the girl was an Aes Sedai now and Green to boot. Mia would not press. If Tia wished to speak with her, she would.
“Heading out to Sturveyn?” one of the soldiers at Mia’s table asked, lifting a metal mug to his lips and drinking down a long pull of mead. The poor mug was dented and even chipped, certainly had seen better days. Did they take that into battle as well? One did have to be able to improvise here at the border, but that was beyond even her considerations…
“We are,” she said. It was innate to the Aes Sedai to not reveal more information than seemed very obviously needed, but this much had not been kept secret. The message from the outpost that brought them here had traveled to them via the citadel, so it wasn’t like they were so out of the loop on such things. “Keeping your ear to the ground?” She smiled slightly.
He smiled back at her, showing off a missing incisor. “Aye, Aes Sedai, always.” He offered a calloused hand across the table, people here at the citadel not worrying so much about propriety and Aes Sedai. Especially not Mia. Most of them knew her, or of her. “Turen, milady.”
Reaching over as well, she took the hand. “Miahala.”
“I know,” he chuckled. “Sturveyn has sent a few messages our way in the past weeks. It’s never been anything to require a full ride-out from here, but I’m not surprised they’ve requested a little aid.”
She lifted her own mug, realizing it was just as dented and worn looking as his, and took a sip of the honey-sweet liquor. “What sort of things have they been telling you?” The best place to find information anywhere was the ground level. In a manor, talk to the servants. In the citadel, talk to the foot soldiers. “Anything you can add to what we already know would be useful.”
Taking a bite of his stew, he looked thoughtful. “Mainly the usual skirmishes with the Blight, its darkness jousting with our forces, but a little more often than usual. Some notes about things ‘feeling strange,’ although I’ll admit they haven’t been very detailed in what ‘strange’ means.” He made a face at that as he mashed a crust of bread into the stew’s gravy.
“I suppose what is strange to one is not to another,” she said musingly, hoping to encourage him to continue. Mia certainly had experienced plenty of “strange” things in her life, which others might not conceive of as possible while others still might not think of it as odd.
“True enough, milady,” he agreed easily. “They haven’t really been saying, though. It probably won’t be anything beyond the usual.”
Mia smiled slightly, but her rueful thoughts said, ‘
We’ll see, I suppose.’

Once night had properly fallen, Mia turned in. Her status afforded her the chance to not have to share a room, except with her warder-husband, who had eaten his dinner with others from the tower that had been stationed a while at the citadel. Sleep had not taken long to come once they settled in, for rest would be crucial. In case there was trouble.
Yet the Dreams began as the night crested its height.
Everything was darkness. Sounds were not only alive around her, but loud. The sounds of everyday life--eating and talking and even singing--merged with the sounds of battle and animalistic growling. She couldn’t see any of it. Trying to blink, she realized that she couldn’t do that either. There was something on her face.
Mia knew she wore a blindfold, but when she tried to bring her hands up and remove it, she couldn’t. Her hands did not obey her thoughts. She lifted one for her face and touched her shoulder, or it went straight out and touched someone armored before her. Her fingertips hooked a chestplate and pulled them down, even though she didn’t mean to.
Blood and bloody ashes!
Her body began to tremble as she continued to try to remove the blindfold. She heard people calling her name, and she tried to call back but even that came out garbled. Heat rose around her, just shy of too hot, and a strange smell floated everywhere she moved. Her hands continued to grapple with all the wrong things and she felt panic rise in her. The very feeling was foreign, as she tried to claw at her own throat and yet could not…
Sitting bolt upright, Mia gasped and threw her hands to her face before she realized that she was fine. There was no blindfold on her, but her fingertips were already scrabbling at her skin and even scratching herself before the conscious thought caught up.
Sojin was already awake, undoubtedly having sensed her growing panic in the dream. He knew there was no threat, however, and pulled her to him. “What is it, love?” he asked. One could always count on a Gaidin to wake up on short notice and be entirely alert. He held her as she trembled and forced her breathing to slow, hoping her heartbeat would fall in line soon.
“I don’t know,” she said softly, earnestly.

The Green Aes Sedai was, by all outward accounts, no different than she had been the day before. She already had Seren and was gathered at the gate, waiting for everyone else come morning light. Inwardly, her mind continued to race through what that dream might have portended--had it been a dream, or a Dream? Sometimes, it was hard to tell.
“Good morning, everyone,” she said once she saw the group before her. “I hope that everyone rested well and ate up this morning. We will ride straight through to Outpost Sturveyn, and will arrive this afternoon. Although no reports dictate that there will be trouble, everyone keep your eyes open. One never can be sure here. Be ready for anything. Now, mount up.”

Morning passed without incident.
Sort of.
Nothing
happened, but Mia could not escape uneasy feeling as they rode along. There was nothing she could see or hear that explained the feeling, but it persisted all the same. She knew she wasn’t the only one feeling it, though she did not speak to everyone in the group lest she make some of the younger ones fearful for no reason. Still, she kept an eye out.
As they approached midday, she let them know that if anyone was hungry, they’d be eating a light meal in the saddle.
Of course, it wasn’t long after she said it that Sojin’s hand went up and the group stopped. She could feel his sudden tension, and just a heartbeat later, she heard a strange whistling through the air.
Saidar flooded her without thought and she had her hands up and a thick shield of air just above them as...rocks? Rocks...came at them. They bounced off the shield.
The echoing of steel sliding from scabbards and the feeling of the One Power flooded the little group as the attack became apparent.
“Trollocs!” Mia called shortly as she saw groups approaching from either side of just before them, emerging from the cover of unpleasant trees that grew along this roadway between citadel and outpost. It wasn’t much but had been enough to hide their enemy. Her eyes flitted over them as they approached, slowly at first.
Directed, and she immediately wondered if there was a Fade nearby though she could not spot one.
The beasts sped up. She estimated perhaps...fifty between the two sides. Not much for a group like this, though the group itself and the limit of the roadway’s terrain might limit them. Still, there was no question what to do now.
Threads were already dancing at her fingertips...
OOC: Okay, it’s a fight! Not a big one, but enough for this group to ‘play.’ The number was indeed an estimate. OOC-knowledge, there’s enough for everyone who wants to kill a few to do so.

Only fight Trollocs please, no Fades will be joining this fight. (But if you want your character to think they see one outside the fight, feel free.)
- Trainees, stick close to the unbonded channelers, especially the channeler learning ranks.
- It’s not a great, lush forest, but still, channelers, try to not light it on fire.
- Remember that you’re still mounted, so you can stay mounted or not, just remember that’s how you’re starting. ^_^
- Things are going to seem/feel “weird” about this. Interpret that how you want for your characters, if you want them to think/feel that way at all.
- There will be another (larger) battle later. I won’t say more than that, but for those wanting weapon skill points or talent points, you don’t have to cram it all in here. Just so you know!
- Have fun!

If you have questions or need more direction/suggestions, please don’t hesitate to send me a PM! This will be a week or so, depending on how it goes. The next plot post will get us past the fight and to the outpost, but I'll be posting in the fight in between and in response to anyone who needs me/Mia.
Thanks for your patience!
