Bad Girls [open introduction]

Hama Valon, the city around the Grey Tower.
Forum rules
Welcome to Hama Valon! The aptly named 'mountain guard' is the city that has grown up at the gates of the Grey Tower at the western edge of the Two Rivers. Like all cities, there are quiet quarters with pleasant inns, such as Elman's Creek, which used to be the nearest village when the Tower was young, but was absorbed as the new city grew; its Band of Brothers Inn is still a favorite relaxation spot for many of the Tower's denizens. And again, like all cities the world over, there are less pleasant places--narrow, nameless streets that house hells and other houses of ill repute. Most of the city falls somewhere in between, with hawkers crying their wares in the streets, respectable shopkeepers ready to serve you, and petty cutpurses happy to follow you.

Novices, Soldiers, and drin'far'ji must be accompanied by a chaperon when outside Tower walls or they risk being picked up as runaways and duly punished.

Felix seemed to be in a hurry, for whatever reason, but Avyra trusted his intuition more than her own, so she didn't argue. Casey also looked very nervous.

The guards proved no issue, obviously, and Felix waved them away casually. Once they were inside, she smiled, turning to Casey as the girl posed some more questions.

“Could you tell me about Mistress Mirin Sedai? Is she the one to decide whether to keep me? I haven’t been tested for the Power yet. At least I don’t think so. I don’t know what the test is.”

Avyra laughed. "Mirin Sedai is tough. She's strict. She means well, but she will make you feel terrible, honestly. But I survived, and I was a terrible Novice. I'm sure you will too." She paused. "I don't think the test is too bad. I didn't have to take it, though. I could channel before coming here." She shrugged. "But I doubt it hurts."

She smiled. She knew that Torianin had been her mentor for her first weeks at the Tower, and Torianin had welcomed and escorted her in the gates. Maybe Mirin would do the same with Casey. She wanted the girl to feel as much at home as possible.

Felix
His heart slowed after the sun gleamed on the small group as they set foot on Tower grounds. His breath slowed to normal and he lost the feeling of a dagger in his back. Felix let out a deep breath. The tower still brought a feeling of safety, even after the troubles of late it was still home.

With a reluctant sigh Felix released the source and watched the world dim to reality. His mind drifted as the group walked the road that lead to the tall crystal tower. The path was short but it gave the observer a clear view of the majesty and the power of the Asha'man and Aes Sedai that called the Tower home. In the distance Felix heard the warders-to-be practice their deadly arts with weapons of variety. He watched from a distance as a group of men and women traded blows with wooden lathes in place of swords. They moved through the forms with ease and a feeling of longing set in to him as they moved.

Traffic had picked up in the short time since he had left the Main building and his dormitory. The group passed Aes Sedai and Asha'man heading out on missions with their loyal defenders. Many common folk walked along side on the way to the tower to seek assistance in some shape or form from the Tower. Traffic was heavy but the group made good time and set foot in the grand entry hall of the tower in short order.

"Casey, welcome to the Grey Tower!" Felix spoke with pride in his voice as he gestured grandly at the building interior.

"I just want you too know after we go our separate ways you can seek me for aid if you need it. If you are Novice or Drin'far'ji, the Accepted and Dedicated are here to help you feel at home and learn. I feel like I can speak for Accepted Avyra here when I say we have been where you are in one form or another. The Tower can be a scary place if you let it. Just know that there are friends to be found here." He smiled broadly, his feelings of unease quenched.

"Do you have anymore questions?"

OOC: I’ll wrap the thread here, if that works for you both. Thanks for a fun introduction! <3

Strict. Of course.

Casey had never imagined that sneaking into the Tower would be easy. But she had dared to hope that Mistress of Novices was a title given to Aes Sedai who became too old and feeble to venture outside, perhaps a first step to retirement. Instead, it sounded like Mirin Sedai would be even sharper than the others. And since Casey had no intention of speaking even one word of the truth… that could be a problem.

It was just her luck that Avyra didn’t even know what this test for the Power was. Maybe it was something dangerous. Maybe she would have to fight. Maybe if she couldn’t channel, she’d die.

That tiny dagger still hid in her boot. Casey resisted the urge to palm it while nobody was looking.

A woman in a shawl passed her, followed by a young man in a black coat, and Casey spun all the way around to watch them go. Prickles raced down her spine. She had just come within touching distance of something strange and otherworldly, something capable of ice and fire and murder. And nobody else had even blinked. Just like nobody twitched at the clash of blades in the distance or the armed guards who sauntered past. Maybe when you spent every day in the reflected glow of a massive spire of crystal and glass, nothing seemed odd any more.

Still walking backward, Casey stumbled and hastily turned to face forward again. Truly, she would never get used to this.

Her steps slowed as they drew near the Tower itself, and Casey crept inside feeling more like a mouse than ever. The hall inside staggered her with its scale, its richness; immense tapestries blazed with colour in the slanting light. Surely this rivalled even the Stone of Tear. Its sheer size shook her until Casey had to take several deep breaths. She didn’t belong here. She couldn’t survive.

Stop. She dipped another little curtsey to her two rescuers, both of whom had been inexplicably kind to her. “Thank you so much, Accepted Avyra and Dedicated Felix. I’m sure I would never have dared make it this far by myself. I would’ve been too scared to even speak to the gate guards. You’ve been very helpful. And if… if I ever need friends, I’ll know who to speak to.”

For some reason, a slight blush heated her face again.

It was ridiculous. A friend was the last thing she needed.
