Phineas looked at the book that Elia pulled from the shelf. He made a mental note of the title, so he could come back and look through it at a more opportune time. “I’ll have to take a more thorough look at that book when I can,” he nodded to the tome in Elia’s hands. “It’ll give me a good idea of what can be made with the Power. I think half of the battle for me will be coming up with what to make. I was only ever really good at making weapons, but the Three Oaths will keep me from doing that once I obtain the Shawl. The Brothers will keep me from making them as a Dedicated or Soldier, if they can even teach me how.” He shrugged though and kept thinking about the book.
“I think I would like studying ter’angreal and understanding how they work,” he admitted. “And then there’s cuendillar. Have the Indigo discovered how to make it yet? I hadn’t heard yay or nay on the subject since I got here, but I really like the idea of studying hearthstone and figuring out how to make it. Making something from whatever metal I need to start with and then somehow making it cuendillar would be pretty cool.” He didn’t add that he’d perhaps become rich from the endeavor, simply because his mind didn’t even go down that road. He was too wrapped up in the learning and the theory of what he wanted to do to consider making money with his studies. “What about you? What do you want to do?” Phin picked another book from the shelf entitled Ter’angreal Studying Across the Ages. It sounded a bit dry, but he figured he should learn what has been done before starting himself. |

Elia
Elia itched at her nose with a long fingernail. She hadn't really thought about what she wanted to do with this ability, assuming Zae Sedai was correct about her possessing it. "I guess the possibilities are limitless, but that's sort of the problem. It's a bit like using the One Power. You could do anything, possibly, with the Source, but what then? You produce a globe of light, and think it's a miracle." She shrugged. "Maybe I can do something with Healing? I can do a little, but it's not really my forte. I don't want to be stuck in an infirmary all day, that's doesn't sound pleasant."
The beautiful novice took a seat as Phineas looked out some more books, kicking her feet a little childishly as he waited for him to come back. He was still within eyesight, and Elia cleared her thoughts by admiring his figure. She had already noted his face was conventionally attractive, with a strong chin and cool blue eyes like frozen lakes. And yes, he was built more like a Warder than an Asha'man. A blacksmith - a former blacksmith, she supposed - but he didn't have the surly disposition that accompanied all of the blacksmiths she had known. Maybe because they were attached to the Shienaran army. Who knew? Phineas did lack something, and that was height. He was taller than her, but by less than a hand. Muscles or no, height was up there on things she appreciated in a man. Still, at least he wasn't Cairhienin; they were, generally, tiny.
"So Phineas?" Elia asked in the sweetest, most honeyed tone she could manage, "What else do you like to do, when you're not reading in the Library and bumping into beautiful strangers?"

OOC: Awh, the answers would be so much better if Elia was an Accepted And yes, Elia is changing the topic of conversation. Feel free to be cool or not cool with that |

Phineas nodded at the woman's response. Truly, you could do anything with the One Power, short of raising the dead, so why not create ter’angreal to do anything short of raising the dead too? That sent Phineas’s mind down a road that he probably should not explore given his present company. Basically, he was liable to forget she was even there, and he didn’t want to offend the only other trainee who seemed to care about the same areas of study that he valued. Her abrupt change of subject, after feeling her eyes weigh him, took Phineas by surprise. Still, he shook it off and quickly considered his reply.
“Well, I guess I would enjoy talking to you considering that I am neither reading at the moment nor have I bumped into beautiful strangers, recently,” he said feigning honesty but with a sly grin in his eyes. Whatever he did, no matter how hard he tried to lie, his eyes always gave him away. Master Kamryn and his wife had made sure he knew of it as a child, when he’d first begun his apprenticeship, and now he simply knew that he could not really lie to anyone. “I also like to spend time at the Grey Tower forges,” he added. “I was a blacksmith before coming to the Tower, so working with my hands there helps me stay calm and focused. You lose some of the anxiety of the world when you hone in on one single task at the exclusion of all other thought.” That was what he did when at the anvil, and that was what had allowed him to find the Oneness so quickly when he’d first learned when he went to the Black Tower. Now, at the Grey, his ability with the Void had not slackened one bit. “What about you?” he asked. “What do you like to do when you’re not in the Library or talking to ex-blacksmith Soldiers?” |

Elia
Elia's malachite green eyes twinkled mischievously. "Why would I want to talk about other things when I do have an ex-blacksmith soldier in front of me, in the Library." She stretched her arms across the table. Not far enough to make contact with Phineas, but close enough if he wanted to take her hands. "But, I suppose, I do quite like the Gardens. Only the hardest trees can grow in the cold, and flowers have to be brought in by merchants and traders. I hadn't seen an hundredth of what the Gardens hold back in Fal Dara." There was also the stream to consider; Elia hadn't seen naturally running water until she was taken to Tar Valon, although the stream didn't compare to the grandeur of the Erinin.
"I also used to enjoy baking, but after being set to scrub out cookpots or wash all of the dishes after mealtime, you don't want to willingly go into the kitchens if it can be avoided." Her smile was soft, tingled with some slight regret. "The same goes with sewing. Aside from fixing my dresses, I haven't stitched an inch for myself in years." She sighed. "I just realised how little free time we get. I spend most of it with my roommate, learning about the Aiel, or with my brother. Quite an interesting culture, the Aiel. Misunderstood, I think, by wetlanders."

| OOC: I'm thinking maybe we wrap this up, see about getting the two of them together in the MRP or in a thread afterwards? |

| Phin could see the joke in Elia’s eyes as she responded to his comments, the Library light reflecting off her brilliantly green irises. “The Gardens are nice,” he replied after she finished talking. She mentioned Fal Dara, which he thought was in the Borderlands somewhere, but he couldn’t be sure. After all, the Borderlands were a big place. “I bet you’re a fantastic baker,” he added. “If you could be tempted to go back into the kitchen, I might be tempted to taste what you make.” He gave her a coy smile, which faded at the busy-ness she described. Light, was his life at the Grey Tower going to be as difficult and busy? If that was the case, he probably should get to work on the books he wanted to read. Once he got a better handle on his ability to channel, he wouldn’t have much time for his own studies either. Then, something she said struck him. “Wait, your roommate is Aiel?” He asked with genuine interest. “I would very much like to meet her if you think that could be arranged?” He let his questions hang in the air while looking past Elia at the books on the shelves. He was mentally picking out titles, creating a list to read. Hopefully, she would be terse in her answers and give him time to get started. He couldn’t just ask her to leave, not after all the help she’d given him. Plus, it would be to his benefit to have her on his side, given that she was studying similar Talents as he. |

| OOC: Works for me. Feel free to have her run off in your next post and that'll end the thread as far as I'm concerned. |

Elia
Elia smiled at the mention of Sinead. She felt quite blessed to have such a wonderful and interesting roommate. "Are you wanting me to play matchmaker?" she asked with a tone of incredulity, although inside she was laughing. There were so many things that made that question awkward, least of which was the fact that Elia had just been flirting at Phineas. At his look of concern, he grinned warmly. "I tease. I can't speak for her, of course, but you won't miss her. She stands a head taller than most novices, and her hair is even redder than mine.
"You may have to wait until I'm an Aes Sedai before I'll have the time to bake anything," Elia said with a slight wrinkling of her nose. "You will have to be quite patient. And stay in my good books," she added with a grin. "I don't just bake for anyone." Truth be told, her talents for bakery had been meant for her family, a prospect that looked far further off and more unlikely each time she thought about it. Ravak would be the only family she'd have close by for the next several years, and he was just as good a cook, if not better. She wondered if he had the free time to go into the kitchens, or if his work as the Master of Training kept him from such leisurely pursuits. She would have to ask that of him, later.
"Mm." Elia pursed her lips as she did some mental work. "I think it must be close to the bell, soon. I wish there were more windows in this place." She rose smoothly, still smiling. "My next class is on the other side of the Tower, so I should be going. Thank you for the company, Phineas. I hope I was of some assistance."

Phineas

Phineas gave a wry smile at the suggestion of Elia’s playing matchmaker. It was not that he didn’t like women; he found a variety of people attractive. It was more the tone with which she had made the comment. Could there have been a hint of jealousy in the words? Phineas couldn’t be sure. The incredulity in her voice had seemed forced, so he was trying to understand which emotion she was hiding. Jealousy was the natural conclusion for him. “I will keep an eye out for her,” he replied. The baking comments were to be expected. “When we are both fully raised, you an Aes Sedai and me an Asha’man, I will make you something beautiful on my anvil and you can bake me something if you like.” He left the conversation there. Too much talk about the day that he might gain both sets of pins would just remind him of how much more he had to go.
The recognition of the time, rather Elia’s reminding him that they lived on a schedule, made Phineas jump. He set books down on a table, said his goodbyes, and made his way towards the exit. He needed to get a better sense of time, or he would be visiting the Master of Soldiers more often than he might like. In any case, as he rushed through the Grey Tower, moving down the levels to the classrooms and his next class, his heart beat with hope for what he might learn now that he knew where to look for the information he sought. |
