Lightening [Attn: Andy/Alrim]

Hama Valon, the city around the Grey Tower.
Forum rules
Welcome to Hama Valon! The aptly named 'mountain guard' is the city that has grown up at the gates of the Grey Tower at the western edge of the Two Rivers. Like all cities, there are quiet quarters with pleasant inns, such as Elman's Creek, which used to be the nearest village when the Tower was young, but was absorbed as the new city grew; its Band of Brothers Inn is still a favorite relaxation spot for many of the Tower's denizens. And again, like all cities the world over, there are less pleasant places--narrow, nameless streets that house hells and other houses of ill repute. Most of the city falls somewhere in between, with hawkers crying their wares in the streets, respectable shopkeepers ready to serve you, and petty cutpurses happy to follow you.

Novices, Soldiers, and drin'far'ji must be accompanied by a chaperon when outside Tower walls or they risk being picked up as runaways and duly punished.

For that moment, everything was right in the world.

Sadira was a realist, so she knew that it wasn't really true for the whole world. There were many things still wrong in many places, but in her world, at that moment, everything was as it should be. She knew there would come other moments, for better and worse, but she let herself just revel in that one for as long as it lasted.

When she finally pulled away, lest it go on longer than was appropriate for a public place, she settled back in her seat and took a slow, deep breath as she somehow managed to be both centered and not, grounded and adrift, all in the best of ways.

The evening was far from over, she knew, but she was almost hesitant to say anything else. This was the sort of moment where everything that was said and not said was all that was needed...and yet this was not the end of anything. It was just the beginning. "You sure know how to make a girl speechless," she said with a teasing look in her eyes and the tilt of her lips.

There was a moment, just one, where there was no time passing. He would have stayed there if he could but such wishes were impossible to achieve. His memory of it would remain for the rest of his days though and that would have to be enough. It was more than happiness and contentment, more than the sense of shared purpose and feeling already known. It was completion. He enjoyed it whilst it lasted before he pulled away and leaned back as she did but kept hold upon her hand.

"And you know how to make time stand still, but I'll remember. Maybe try for breathless next" he teased back, bright eyed and a foolish grin on his face. His cheeks hurt but he didn't care.

It was powerful, how embracing emotion, the moment, could make the world better. The music, rough but fun before, sounded more delightful. The food smelled divine and the room seemed brighter, more colourful. If possible she seemed all the more beautiful. He had no time for regretting not saying anything sooner, what was weaved was wisest and he simply enjoyed the moment, the shared feelings across their connection. It filled him with an excited energy that made his muscles itch for movement.

"To being complete" he raised the cup in a toast with a smile, draining it after appropriately.

More drinks were brought without asking, the staff knew Grey Tower folk when they saw them and always liked to make them feel appreciated. At least that was his experience. He ignored them though, he had eyes only for one.

"To being complete," she echoed in a whisper, taking a long pull at her own drink even as her eyes remained locked on his over the rim of her glass. She even forgot for a moment just what she was drinking.

They ate in silence for a time then, although it certainly wasn't an uncomfortable quiet. It was simply some unspoken agreement that such an exchange was due a certain amount of reverence. They submitted to the practicality of the fact they had a meal in front of them and they had to eat, and stole continual glances, but conversation was a minimum for a time.

When they were done, the serving girl came by to clear their dishes and they enjoyed the music as they finished their drinks.

A song with a slow cadence, a lilting quality to the tune, was played and Sadira smiled back at the musicians. She turned back to Alrim and her eyes glittered in the candlelight. "Treat me to one more dance before you take me home?"

It felt like the mood of the tavern reflected their own as the evening progressed. He didn't know if that was just the fact that everything seemed enhanced or whether the fact of who they were, and how they felt, had a rippling effect on those around. The Pattern had shown its favour to them so he wouldn't be surprised if it were once more.

He had spent the meal in silent observance, of both Rose and their surroundings. The innkeeper kept winking at him, which he tried mightily to ignore but found it impossible. The serving lass had taken their dishes away before long and he had leaned back and briefly closed his eyes to enjoy the warmth of the room when the music changed and the silence was broken. He couldn't say no to that gaze even if he wanted to and so he smiled and pushed himself to his feet.

"Always" he said simply, taking her hand and pulling her from her seat, towards the floor.

It was a slower set of motions this time, graceful and purposeful. It reminded him of the ball but this felt far more personal as he lead the movements, their feet moving but gazes locked. The music became the background, merely the rhythm they moved to as they dipped, whirled and held to each other closely. It was one dance but the musicians kept it up for a while as the pairs both came onto and left the floor. Seemingly they felt the need to cap off the perfect evening of revelation with the ability for them both to share a more intimate expression.
