She allowed herself a brief glance towards the orphanage door, taking in as much as she could without turning her head to view it directly. Seeing nothing that stood out to her, Liaran looked back at Haeden and redirected her focus towards him again. "I can think of a few reason why she wouldn't have been channeling. She may still be bound to the Oaths by the Oath Rod, and if she is, she wouldn't have been able to use it as a weapon."
Her voice remained as quiet as it had been earlier as she continued, "Or, she might not be Oathbound, but simply not want to draw the attention that using the One Power could bring. Another possibility is that she might have chosen not to act against the Three Oaths by using it, even if she could. Of course, her reasons could also be something else entirely. I can't even begin to imagine what she's thinking." Whatever was going on in Nykkolaia's mind was something Liaran wasn't honestly sure she wanted to understand.
She was still looking at Haeden, doing her best not to make their shared task too obvious, when a server approached their table. Food was the last thing on Liaran's mind, and she hadn't had a thought to spare for it. Since she had no desire to eat anything before the confrontation that lay ahead of them, this didn't really matter. The Aes Sedai settled for nothing more than a glass of water, then let herself check the orphanage and surrounding streets again while the server turned to Haeden.
