Lysira's ebony eyes were restless, never settling on the same place twice. Yes, there was something not quite right here, but it was seemingly impossible to pinpoint or define. It was a very vague sense, but whatever it was, it had The Darkness sneaking a little closer to the edges of her mind.

'I'm not sure,' she signed, instinctively able to put her hands in sight without even looking his way as she instead continued to scrutinize their surroundings. 'It isn't anything specific or obvious. There is just a strange sense. A feeling at the very edge of awareness.'

The larger Gaidin translated Lys’s words for Andraste’s benefit, tilting his head as he spoke. He wasn’t sure what was more disconcerting. . .that he seemed oblivious to what it was the two women picked up on, or that there was something that felt off to the two of them. He’d grown to trust Lysira’s instinct, knowing the smaller Gaidin had an almost sixth sense about her.

Kandor had once been his home, and he knew, or thought he knew the feel of the land. He knew when he’d have a good day out hunting or fishing versus bad, but he felt out of touch and out of tune. He knew well enough to listen to whatever it was that put both Andraste and Lysira on edge. Moving the reins he held to one hand, his other went to the horseman’s axe, just in case.

Narrowing his eyes, Bastian studied the treeline before sparing a glance to Andraste, “We should ride on. . .I’d rather reach Diinar before we lose daylight given what you two are sensing.” His horse seemed to sense his unease and stomped impatiently, “And perhaps before our mounts pick up on our unease.”

"Agreed," Andraste said, even though her eyes did not fall back on either of them just yet.

To her, it was disturbing to sense something being off without being able to identify exactly what the feeling was and where the source of it was... She frowned and shook it off, or just enough to keep them moving. She forced her eyes forward again as she gave her horse's side a gentle nudge to keep them walking forward.

She knew the Gaidin were moving forward again as well, but no one relaxed.

From the trees off to their left came the loud flapping of many wings, but when the Red's head snapped around, she couldn't see anything in the shadows between the trunks.

"We might want to pick up our pace a bit," she suggested in a low voice.

“Agreed,” Bastian replied. The trio encouraged their horses into a trot as they carried on towards town. The day was overcast, and as they closed distance to Diinar, the smell of rain was in the air. A distant rumble of thunder added to the overall gloomy feel of the day. He may not have sensed the same thing Andraste and Lysira did, but their unease was. . .infectious.

The large Gaidin couldn’t help but wonder what had befallen his homeland. The sun started to sink behind the trees as daylight started to give way towards dusk. Fortunately, they were nearly to the gates of Diinar, and would be within the town’s walls by the time night fell. Bastian looked to Lysira, “When we get to the inn, why don’t you go with Andraste Sedai to secure us rooms and I will take care of getting the horses settled into the stables?”

The mute mouse of a Gaidin nodded, her dark eyes still flashing with a fierce light that anyone who didn't know her certainly would not believe her small body capable of producing.

It was, as Bastian was particularly aware, an underestimation that could well be anyone's last.

Despite all their ill feelings, forebodings, and misgivings, they arrived at the gates of Diinar just as the sun was working its way down the horizon, and the faintest of rain began to fall. The wind grew chill, and Lysira was glad that they were nearly there, since Borderland towns by and far required you to not cover your head when you entered their walls.

Hence, the rain was even less pleasant.

They were permitted entrance through the gates without trouble, however, and directed to the single inn that the town possessed, which was a place very imaginatively called The Dancing Lady. They rode up to it and dismounted, letting Bastian take the three horses while Andraste and Lysira entered the inn.

The inn mistress was easy to find, taking up the space of two patrons wide, and Lys hung back slightly while Andra approached. "We need two rooms for the night," the Red said easily.

"Am sorry, miss," the inn mistress said in a voice rather masculine, Lysira thought. "Only got one open."

"I see," Andra said. She glanced back at Lysira, who just shrugged in a way of saying, 'Well, we're all adults.' The Aes Sedai turned back to the woman. "We'll take it." She offered payment and nodded for Lysira to go find Bastian and inform him...

The stable boy who worked the stables associated with the Dancing Lady helped Bastian with the three horses. The two saw to Andra and Lysira’s mounts first, untacking them and rubbing them down before letting them loose in their stalls where hay and clean water was waiting them. Bastian’s own gelding stomped a foot impatiently, “Calm down. It is your turn now. They only have their hay. . .you will get your grain when they get theirs.”

Bastian pulled the saddle off, and the stable boy took it from him while he started brushing the four legged beast down. Once satisfied, Bastian led him into the stall and took off his halter. He nudged the Gaidin in the side before diving into his hay. The stable boy poured out a mix of oats, sweet oats and pellets for each of the three beasts when Lysira stepped into the barn.

Giving the other Gaidin a warm smile, Bastian pointed upwards, “We arrived just in time to miss the worst of the rain.” A distant rumble of thunder punctuated his statement, “Did Andraste Sedai manage to get us rooms?”

Bastian couldn’t quite interpret Lysira’s expression, but she signed She got us one room. . .that is all they had left.

The larger Gaidin arched a brow, “On the one hand, it will make it easier to keep an eye on our Aes Sedai. . .even if it will make it a bit. . .cozy?” His lips twitched into a slight smirk, “The horses are settled, and I would be quite happy to sit in front of a fire and get the damp chill out of my bones.”

'Cozy' was one word for it, Lysira reflected with some amusement. Her inward feelings were rather mixed about it all, and she struggled to dissect what all of those feelings were. She was, however, a pragmatic woman above all else and that steered her more than anything. So she simply nodded to Bastian, and the pair headed inside.

They found Andraste already seated at a table, which was situated very near the fire. She smiled a little at them. "I would have ordered for you both, but I wasn't sure what you'd want," she said, sipping her own glass of spiced cider before looking for the serving girl and gesturing her over.

Lysira looked at Bastian and signed for him so he could order for her, simply requesting her own cider and a bowl of stew.

Bastian wasn’t expecting any trouble in the inn, but he was on guard, nonetheless. Without saying a word to each other, he and Lysira took up positions so that if anyone did try anything to get to their Red, the sorry souls would have to go through the two Gaidin. When the server appeared at the table, he looked up from Lysira and replied, “We’ll both take warm cider and bowls of stew. If you’ve got some fresh bread, that wouldn’t be amiss, either.”

The server gave a nod and left the table, leaving the three of them on their own. He gave a slightly wry smile to Andra, “We did have to come during the rainy season, didn’t we? Hopefully our room will at least have a fireplace to keep the chill at bay.” He scanned the room as he asked the next question, “How long are you thinking of remaining here?” He looked back to Andraste with a quizzical look.

Andraste was enjoying the warmth that her drink was bringing her, although the liquor content was minimal so it was certainly not going to affect her senses in any way. That was something she wouldn't allow. She smiled lightly as she met the large Gaidin's gaze, although in truth, her brain had been somewhat elsewhere.

"I don't imagine we'll stay more than a night," she replied. "We will do some inquiring tonight and tomorrow, then likely be on our way. Two nights at the most." Her lips curved with amusement, which she just barely managed to hide behind her cup. "I trust that Lysira has told you of our...unexpected sleeping arrangements."

One night, or even two would be easy enough for the three of them to share such tight quarters. Bastian simply arched a brow and gave a slight nod, “She did. I can sleep on the floor when I’m not on watch and give you two the bed.” The amusement from the Red Sedai seemed lost on the large Gaidin.

Taking a long draw from his warmed cider, Bas set his mug down, glad for the warm fire and a roof over their heads, “That is unless either of you have a better idea?”
