Bastian
Had Haeden and Bastian been fighting humans, the Ji’val might have tackle the third, but given the size of the Trollocs? Bastian knew he was big, but he wasn’t that big. The Trolloc was bringing a war hammer to bear on Haeden, but Bas closed distance enough to use the head of his axe to yank the hammer from its downward swing.

The Trolloc roared as it turned to face his new opponent. The beast had the head of a boar, and a coat of coarse, thick black . . .fur. The other thing about Trollocs? They smelled worse than a pile of manure sitting out in the sun. The war hammer it wielded was massive, but the Trolloc swung it as if it weighed nothing, and Bastian had to duck so as not to get clocked upside the head.

Bastian waited until the beast pulled his weapon back and took two quick shuffled steps forward, trying to get in the Trolloc’s guard. He brought his right axe up, hoping to land a blow into the beast’s side. It was faster than Bastian and pulled the handle of the war hammer back, landing a solid blow into his head. He saw stars instantly and stumbled backwards.

The next blow sent Bastian to his back, and he only just had time to roll out of the way of another blow aimed squarely at his head. He let momentum carry him into another roll to come up to his feet, but had to act quickly and bring both axes up to block the next swing. This brought the Trolloc uncomfortably close. . .close enough that Bastian could feel its breath. . .his very very stinky breath on his face, “You could really stand to chew on some mint.”

The Trolloc didn’t, of course, laugh, but snorted in Bastian’s face, who kicked him right between the legs, hoping it was built not to differently than most men. Was it even male? It seemed to be, as it howled and stumbled back. Seeing his opening, Bastian swung his left axe horizontally, landing into the beast’s side, and followed it up with a downward swing of his right axe, landing it into the beast’s neck, and what would be a mortal blow.

As the Trolloc slumped to the ground, Bastian staggered again, shaking his head in an attempt to get rid of the stars. He looked over to see Haeden had dispatched the other trollocs, “Scouting party?”

“Likely. We should get going before the others come looking for them.”

The Ji’val nodded, “No arguments here.” He followed Haeden to where they left the horses, and was more than a little thankful the Trollocs hadn’t found them. They mounted up and sprinted back to the Citadel to give their report. After the report was delivered, Bastian looked to Haeden, “Why do I get the feeling this was rather routine for the Citadel?”
